Version 2.0.6 - 11.10.2017 - Added gutters and downspouts for rafter and truss gable roofs. - Added gutters and downspouts for dutch gable rafter roofs. I still need to add gutters to monoslope truss roofs, shed roofs and some other specialized truss roofs. Adding the gutters to the common truss roof became slightly more complicated when I realized I also had to deal with roof returns and their various configurations. This gable roof has a hip return with fully wrapped gutter, you can also choose to half wrap or no wrap (linear gutter only at eaves, does not wrap around corner). The dutch gable is really no different than the regular hip roof, when it comes to the gutter and its configuration, but internally it is a completely different set of advanced options.

I am DIY and just need two truss for myself, thanks for the free tool, but I hate the limit of 5 per month, and the span can only be integer feet. Three times I tried to use say 12ft11in the s/w skipped yet count the time I used, so I only used two times and need to wait to another month!

Version 2.1.2 - 12.18.2017 - Enabled vertical and angled heel blocking within the advanced options for truss roofs. If you choose to enable vent holes the heelblock menu will prompt for the hole diameter. The vent hole algorithm will place vent holes in the heel blocking per the truss spacing: < 12 in. = 1 vent hole < 16 in. = 2 vent holes 16 in. or greater = 3 vent holes Let me know if this makes sense, I can always modify it to meet any criteria. If this sort of thing varies a lot per locale I can also make it more user definable.

Version 2.2.0 - 06.19.2018 - Sub-groups within roof and floor truss assemblies can be made persistent by naming these groups or component instances to (custom1, custom2, custom3, etc...), also all other user defined geometry (ie. faces, text, lines and dimensions) are also retained when the assemblies are regenerated by the plugin.

More "Fun with Roofs". This roof was generated by first creating a hip roof primitive then deleting all but 3 components which were then copied and rotated into place for the lower roof hip corner. The shed roof /w ledger component was created with one primitive and then copied and rotated into place. Overall a fairly painless process now that I am somewhat familiar with navigating my way around SketchUp. The fascia required a couple of trims. The pyramid at the top required no manual intervention. Approximately 10-15 minutes of work for a fairly substantial roof. 17m35s end truss top chord uses two pieces, a better way is single piece and sit on botoom chord. end truss top chord can be 3.5" lower.

Correct, you also have the option to orient the outlookers vertically and then it will create the truss as you suggested. However this arrangement is not shown in this demonstration.

The Trial version will expire after 30 days. Previously it was only feature limited and did not expire however, it probably was not featured limited enough so there were many who simply kept using the Trial version.

Thank you for making these tutorials, I'm tying to learn as much as I can about this trade before getting a more traditional education. Out of curiosity, how is the Medeek Plugin related to MiTek?

It is not related to MiTek, however like MiTek I am using as much industry standard nomenclature and design principles as I can. A truss designed with the plugin will be very close if not exact to any truss you have designed by your local truss manufacturer using Alpine, Simpson or MiTek. They may adjust the web configurations based on the engineering/loads on the truss or other special considerations.

Yes, if you use a metric template in SketchUp it automatically switches to metres and mm.

Nathaniel is there a truss combination or a truss system that goes from the main house truss to over the porch to the outside header. The main truss supports on the house exterior walls. there is no weight except the lumber over the porch. Acadian style house with front and rear 10' porches. house is 40'x32'. i like the TRAY truss system. also is there a engineering calculations for this system. Thanks

Version 2.0.5 - 11.05.2017 - Added gutters and downspouts for rafter and truss hip roofs. - Gutter menu added to the global settings. - Custom roof layer added for gutters in the layer menu within the global settings. I still need to add gutters and downspouts to the gable roofs (truss and rafter). Four gutter types with two different downspout types. This is a new feature so please send me your feedback and I will try to address all of the issues. The gutter shown is a 6" half round with a 2.75" round downspout. The gutter and downspouts are separate solids so that one can easily adjust the placement of the downspouts after the fact. The downspout angle is 15 degrees, with a 3" drop out of the gutter and a downspout center line radius of 3". I will be splitting the floor truss module into a separate plugin (Medeek Floor) in the next month (Jan. 2020). This will allow for polygon shaped floor outlines.
