Well seems I've fallen into that category, the lifelong extremely painful scaphoid injury. Unfortunately I shattered and crushed my entire hand. To the point that the Dr's wanted to amputate 25 years ago. It flares up periodically after having 7 reconstructive surgeries. I finally put a stop to any more surgeries, and now everything you mentioned in this video has happened. Three days ago, the pain has kept me awake! A few months ago they recommended placing metal plates, removing the necrosis which will make my hand no longer able to bend. Tomorrow I'm going to the ER again. . . LET'S SEE HOW IT GOES. I wish my previous doctor's had this information or just amputated. Thank you for your very thorough video. God Bless those who have this condition 🙏

It’s been 7 months and my doctor has said it hasn’t healed. I wore 2 different casts for 14 weeks combined. And now I wear a brace with a stimulant inside. I’ve nearly lost all hope. I wish you all with the same fracture better luck then me. I’m young and still can’t heal.

@@nazigamer6780 sheesh man 20 weeks? I thought 2 was bad. Well, there's a lot of things I'm doing to keep myself sane, one of them is working out with the available limbs that I can still use, I try to be consistent cuz that's good but it's pretty hard with the cast. Another thing is I try to learn new things/skills and talents it's reaaally satisfying once you get the hang of something you always wanted to do. Also KZbin really helps with boredom I can tell you about some channels if you want

@@sphinx2077 i can do some light work with the hand ..and it does not hurt normally...but cant able to do heavy work...and i hurt my hand many times...i dont know its fracture or not because this injury happened to me while i was sleeping...when i woke up my hand started paining...ans its covid i cannot go to doctor...

Very interesting video sir. I have had a clunking sensation for several years from the radial wrist area but it is otherwise painless. It appeared following ACL rupture when as a meningomylocele I had to transfer using my hands more than usual. Blessings and peace

I have ununited scaphoid fracture for the last four years. Didn’t go to see any body about it when it happened playing soccer. However 4.5 years later when got an X-ray done. And then I was told that it’s too late now. There’s nothing they can do to help and that I should’ve gone and get an x ray done right after it happened. I was also told that I gotta learn to live with it for the rest of my life. It really sucks and can’t perform normal activities I used it. Really miss my old wrist.

Interesting video. I'm in my late 30's and fractured my scaphoid back in the late 90's but I didn't even realize i fractured it until 6 months after the fact and even then my doctor initially missed the fracture from the xrays. I wore a cast and after i got it off it seems it never healed quite right as I can feel that my scaphoid sticks out more on the injured hand which was more of an annoyance until a few years ago I decided to an orthopedic place to get xrays on it to make sure I wasn't crazy. The doctor reviewed them and didn't think it was a big deal. He said the pain was coming from a space next to the scaphoid and there were some bone spurs. He really didn't give much info and I left the place without a clue what to do next. Now here I am a few years later and I am noticing that my wrist is continuing to become a little more arthritic. I'm wondering if I should see if I can go to a different place and get another opinion.

Mike S. Damn that’s why I’m here too.. I hurt my wrist in football 4 years ago in high school. Only had one x ray done, doc said there was no break (only a high sprain). So I was in a splint for four weeks plus I was rushing my recovery to get back on the field. Now today I still feel a tenderness ache around where the scaphoid is ,around my wrist ... I hope I’m not too late to help it heal or if it needs to be removed if it is broken, from what I hear they don’t heal correctly or at all without surgery depending on the break. Im nervous .

I broke mine as well and had a screw put in it. My hand still swells up and have trouble doing a few things like holding a bag over my shoulder. I fear that its permanent at this point and question if my doctor was reputable enough to perform the surgery. Truly life changing. This injury happened a year and a half ago and I'm a 30 year old Male that doesn't smoke. The doctor said smoking prevents the bones from healing..

They missed my fracture. Went 2 years with a messed up wrist. Had surgery at 17 which included a bone graft and screw put in. I'm now 32 and it gives me problems still. Can't do anything about it. My advice is don't break it or you will have problems the rest of your life

I broke my scaphoid too, lol. I flew off my gravel bike going downhill at 20mph. I also fractured my distal radius (4mm crack, fml) and I think I should probably get surgery. If I was older I might not, but I'm 19 and I love to rock climb and bike and ski and swim... and I would hate to get arthritis in 10 years. Any thoughts from the community? Honestly, wearing the cast, my pain is about 0/10 but sometimes 1/10. I do consider myself incredibly lucky that I didn't injure anything else (like my head or neck). But as a freshman at UC Berkeley in the College of Engineering, I am the busiest I have ever been in my entire life. This injury has just made everything so much slower. I really do feel incredibly grateful that I have such a strong group of friends and family that helped me get to where I am, and continues to help me with my injury. Go bears

@@sandrosuazo2583 Yeah, of course. First of all, sorry. It definitely sucks. That being said, I feel pretty lucky I didn't break my neck. Update: I decided to get surgery. It was supposed to take 2 or 3 hours, but it ended up taking closer to 4.5. Although my parents were nervous, I was knocked out. When I woke up, the surgeon said that he wasn't trying to be arrogant, but to know that he did a really good job. After the surgery, I was pretty nauseous, but since I still had an iv in, they pumped me with some anti nausea medication which worked great. They gave me some prescription pain medication and my dad bought some ibuprofen. I always worry about addiction, so I only ever took the ibuprofen. That being said, it only hurt for a few days and the ibuprofen was more than enough to let me sleep. I can't stress this enough, the post surgery pain was really not that bad at all (for me). I stayed at home and did nothing for 3 solid days, and then started walking around again and then within the week I was hiking 8 miles. The doctors will tell you to keep your wrist above your heart to minimize swelling. I did this religiously for about a week. I went back to university a week after the surgery, and life was good. When I got out of my cast weeks later, my hand was super ugly and looked like an alien's genitals. It was ridiculously hairy and the black stitches looked like flies. By about a week later it was looking mostly normal to me, and others thought it was fine. I didn't shave the hair for about a month to remind me to take it easy. I had doctors appointments about once every three weeks. About a month ago, I had my final xray and pt appointment. Every xray I got, the technicians would convey that the surgeon really did a great job. I definitely lost wrist strength and finger strength, but I am already doing crimp pull ups again. Throughout the entire process I continued to workout, doing modified planks, indoor cycling, and lots of walking. This kept me sane and meant that I never got too out of shape. Two weeks ago I just biked my first half century. I still have a massive 2.5" scar on the topside of my wrist, but I like it, as it is a reminder of my mortality. If it does still bother you, I had this same problem, I suggest getting an X-ray so you will have an idea on whats happening to your hands!

So I injured my hand at the gym a week ago. I was running backwards and lost my balance. I caught myself on my right hand. It happened so fast. It immediately hurt right under my thumb and near the middle of my palm. I knew I had sprained it. But something was off still. I went in the same day I got injured. They did an x-ray and found nothing. But I'm convinced I have an occult fracture on my scaphoid. It hurts so bad when I bend my hand backwards around this same area where the scaphoid would be. And it's hard for me to do the snuff box test because I'm so swollen around my whole thumb. I do feel a little pain pushing in that area. But not to where it brings me to my knees or anything. It's just not comfortable. I can still move my wrist and fingers OK. And even my thumb. But I can't put any weight on my hand. I can carry things OK though. Especially if they are 10 lbs or less. I just don't know if I should go back in. I just feel like I'm crazy for thinking I fractured this bone. I didn't know if a sprain could hurt this bad this long. But maybe. I'm just worried. The gym is part of my life. And I don't want to have to stop going if it's nothing. I just want answers. But I'm scared I will look like a lunatic going back. Idk.

My hand still hurts especially in my snuff box. I may go back soon if it doesn't improve much. It is such a hard bone to heal.

I just fractured mine and in 15 and I fell straight off my bike and landed on my right hand it happened 2 days ago but I waited oer night to see if the pain went but it didn't it was worse so I went yesterday and I have fracture and they put a cast on it will that help?

Sir my left hand scaphoid fractured from the west side (center) 6 months ago. Then the doctor did screw friction. But today even after 6 months, CT scan shows a gap in it. Right now doctors are speaking for grafting. But due to no money now, I cannot get it done. I cant relate my own situation to yours, I imagine (in my non medically qualified brain) that I would be in a better situation than I am now If I had it done after 1 year rather than waiting 10. I never doubted that surgery was the best way to go for my own personal situation. Unfortunately the op wasn't a complete success, I still have full use of my hand but there are a few bit of bone that did not fuse. I am just unlucky it didnt fuse 100% but despite that I still can be grateful that I can weight bear on it and get back to certain activities (it is quite painful though). If I had done the operation 1 year after the accident things would have been different, there would have been a better for result I am sure.

Necrosis of scaphoid bone,you will not able to move your wrist,chronical pain etc. You will need operation,they will harvest new bone from radius and then put in your scaphoid place and fix with screw.
