I Think is a little OVERRATED. I've never met anyone who did not like this movie. Unlike other Disney films such as Atlantis, Treasure Planet or even Chicken Little which are movies filled with haters and negative reviews, while the latter only gets rave reviews. Bolt is "OK" in my opinion, but by far one of the weaker ones at Disney.

Outside of a more positive look at cats, one thing I like about this movie is the emphasis on adoption. One thing you did not mention is that the animal control is not made up of absolute villains. While they are a bit bumbling, they are never cruel to the animals and there are no signs of abuse. They are an obstacle, sure, but they are just doing their jobs which is actually in the best interest of animals. My dad used to work in animal control and hated the villainization of animal control workers. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy. The workers are villainized so animal lovers don't want to do that very necessary job, making it so only people who don't care about animals taking the jobs, and, thus, continuing the negative stereotype.

I really liked this movie. It showcased the more unpleasant side of being a celeb. Being forced to do shit purely for ratings and cheapsake agents that do not have your best interests in mind. I seriously wanted to punch that agent in the face. Especially after the fire when all he could think about was how much publicity it would get.
@ryanrobotham76968 жыл бұрын
I'd actually like to see the actor who plays Dr. Calico, maybe as this classical actor stuck with typecast roles like the late Alan Rickman's character from Galaxy Quest, who incidentally was based off Leonard Nimoy's relationship with Spock and to a lesser extent, Sir Alec Guinness's relationship with Obi Wan Kenobi.b Maybe make him a grandfatherly figure to Penny, who actively encourages her to get out of Hollywood, contrary to his character on the show.
@gabriellavedier96507 жыл бұрын
It would have been a tough integration, but maybe it could replace the scene with Mindy from the network. Dr. Calico could be a Brit imitating an American accent, like Hugh Laurie. He's there, having a cup of tea, and Penny comes in to talk to him. He feels her pain, and feels terrible that one so young is being ripped apart like that, perhaps relating second-hand what was said. He tells her sternly to get out of the business, maybe showing off a collection of faded photos of his Westend triumphs, maybe even a Tony from a career on Broadway. Then his temptation into Hollywood and fall from respectability. Huh. That really would have added a lot.

Mittens has it tougher in the world of adoption more than you know. Not only is she a cat, she is a BLACK cat. Black cats are adopted less than other cats. Worse than that, some are adopted and then sacrificed in rituals (this happens to white cats too, but not as much), which is why many rescues will not adopt out black cats (sometimes all cats in general) around Halloween.
@melissacooper42823 жыл бұрын
I thought it was terrible that her former owners abandoned her! And she was declawed to boot! It left Mittens to not trust humans and leaving her to wonder what she had done wrong to be dumped like that! If the owners didn't want her anymore why didn't they just take her to a shelter?

*Hundredth* This is a perspective on Disney Animation’s Bolt that feels as fair as Cosmodore’s, Peter Knetter’s and Jambareeqi’s. And this is exactly why although it’d be f’in great if AniMat reviewed more than a thousand films on AniMat’s Reviews (including AniMat’s Classic Reviews, it’s spinoff), one of my most anticipated episodes of the series is *Bolt - AniMat’s Classic Reviews* because at first, at the start of the last decade, AniMat did state that Bolt, while it did okay at the box office, tried too hard to be like a Disney movie (besides The Truman Show and Inspector Gadget, which makes a lot more sense, but still, this movie turned out with high emotional stakes) and had a Disney Channel star (which even she did well in this movie), and a decade later in the present/new decade that is the 2020s, we’re highly anticipating AniMat to give Bolt a much more fair and elaborate opinion on the movie rather than have it be close to be getting the Seal of Garbage, even if it does mean getting the Seal of Approval.

I always want to laugh, cry of joy, cry of sadness etc and this movie makes me feel strong emotions. This movie touches me in a way most people won't (heck, I have a profile pic of Bolt till the end of September). One thing is this movie came out on my birthday (11-21-2009). Second, my black retriever, Vader, died around that time. I always treated him like Penny treated Bolt. He was MY superdog. I have a cat as well and Vader and the cat got along nicely. Bolt gives me that feeling of remembrance for Vader. I always cry at the montage of Bolt and company traveling to Hollywood. Same at the ending. I'm sorry, this is my favorite movie of all time. It needs more love than it has now. Most people nowadays remember this movie

Meet the Robinsons might actuallyvbe my favorite Walt Disney Animation Studios film, so I can't imagine what you mean when you call it "a little better" than Chicken Little.
@HD_Segal5 жыл бұрын
I can only presume that Miley Cyrus was cast as Penny for marketing purposes, hence that decision somewhat dating the film. But for the few scenes she had to work with, she sounded like she could pull it through. I like when most animated features- the ones that are expected to be critical and financial hits, at least - are able to incorporate a modern sense of humor. I don't mean like with the "Hotel Transylvania" franchise referencing selfies and "Sexy and I Know It" for gag purposes. I mean something like, say, "Inside Out.” There are references to modern technology like smartphones, but the humor remains timeless based off the absurdity of situations within the film itself. And yes, "Ralph Breaks the Internet" does use memes and social media as part of its gags. But it's like an episode of The Fairly OddParents titled "Information Stupor Highway." You know that what you're watching is a time capsule of a particular stage in internet evolution and the tongue-in-cheekiness always lets viewers in on the joke and acknowledges so with a beating passion.

This may be the super power of the directors. The swoop in with a short period remaining, to revamp a script that is wholly different and make pure awesomeness. This and Zootopia, taken together, show lightning striking twice. They also have no shame about blatantly shipping different-species protagonists in the movie. Here Bolt and Mittens just are a couple, period. In Zootopia Nick and Judy not only have a tease line but the staff just comes out and blesses fan-canon.
@KARMAZYNA6 жыл бұрын
I really don't like the "cats want to be dogs" rethoric. They may want to be treated as good as them, yes, but not BE them. It's like saying that someone who's mistreated on racial grounds secretly wants to become someone else instead of being proud of who they are and braving it. It just comes off as wrong.

You know, I myself have always wondered what it would've been like if Dr. Calico was the villain of this movie. Not in the TV show universe but in real life. I was thinking he could be this money grubing scumbag who's responsible for Bolts disappearance this time around in an attempt to sabotage production (yes he's that kind if villain and his plan does involve screwing with production for whatever his scheme is). Also those two cats who used to mess around with Bolt would have a role to play here as they would follow Bolt to NYC to like "protect him" or something. There's still a bunch to figure out with this one, so I kinda want you guys to share some of your ideas that I might use for this.

Chicken Little has a strong history that addresses topics such as bullying, paternal neglect, the importance of dialogue to resolve family conflicts, and makes an interesting social critique showing how our society can be ruthless and ignorant. Besides having a crazy fun climax, funny characters and good jokes. Bolt is just generic, cliché and predictable lost puppy film that we've seen thousands of times.

You're probably just saying it's "trash" because it's a popular opinion, but read what I wrote above, and you'll understand why I consider it.
