RuffWear makes a climbing harness with a handle that works great for orthopedic surgery. The harness should just be left on so as to avoid over-manipulation right after surgery. I would recommend wet food like fresh chicken and steak instead of dry, carb laden kibble. The fresh, moist, real food can be introduced before surgery. For balanced meals, there are several commercial, lightly cooked diets that are low carb and made by reputable companies. The better the nutrition, the better the healing and the better the quality of life and health of joints long term. Hank is a lucky boy to have such caring owners. Thanks for the video.

Hi Courtney, I know that Hank had this surgery 7yrs ago, I I’m hoping that he is doing amazing! My little cavapoo Georgia had patella luxation surgery this morning. I can not explain how much your videos are easing my stress about caring for her after the procedure! We are not out of the woods yet(let’s hope for an ok night) but your information helped me anonymously! Thank you! ❤️Rossana and recovering Georgie

My young pom is scheduled for next Wed, they wanted to do this week but our vet became ill. I'm sick over my sweet little boy having to do this at only 8 months old and I was looking for accurate, real world information. I appreciate you sharing and your honesty. This greatly helps us make plans and adjust work schedules. Thank you, this helps more than you'll ever know.

Thank you so much for this! My little guy is scheduled to go in next month and I’m trying to get super prepared for it. The sling is a great idea! I’ve got him a soft crate that’s like a little bedroom because he’s so young and excitable. Great tip on the ice pack! Glad your little one is doing well. 💕

My 5 lb chi has this, the vet has told me over the years, but he never limped or was in obvious pain. Until 2 days ago, when I woke up to his screaming at 6am. The vet gave me Metcam pain reliever, and he seems better, but she seemed to think surgery was risky since he’s so small. Poor little peanut, I don’t know what to do. I don’t want him to suffer, or be lame. The problem now is that he won’t eat if he’s in pain, and he can only have the pain reliever on a full stomach.

My dog just had this done 3 days ago. We took him home the following day though. he got a bandage wrap on the other back leg which had the Fentanyl patch in it that we just removed today. The leg that had surgery had no wrap but it is stitched tight. After removing the fentanyl patch, my dog seems to want to move around more so he's in the crate right now. I have to do this for 2 weeks until his 2 week check up. I feel bad for him and I don't want him to think that I'm just locking him in while his brother roams around. Today after removing the fentanyl patch, I'm hoping he'll be able to keep his food and drink. I gave him a teaspoon of wet dog food (he normally doesn't get that.. he gets dry dog food normally) about an hour ago and so far so good... keeping the fingers crossed.

Our morkie just had the surgery - stage 3 luxating patella. Floating all over the place. She had a fully exposed incision area which is different from what you had. Definitely a challenge to keep her from getting zoomies and running around horseplaying. Anyway, hope Hank is doing well, Courtney.

Wow, it seems Hank had a hard time after surgery! My dog Lily had this surgery 4 weeks ago & she is doing amazing! I brought her home the same night also but our vet had her walking out the door. I was very surprised Hank had an epidural! I know this was 3 yrs ago but could you give me an update? Is Hank still doing good? I watched the other videos but our vet had us walking her 2x a day for 10 mins the day after & doing passive ROM. I wonder if because she is a larger dog, recovery was easier on her? Or if medical research just advanced? What are your thoughts? I work in the health field on a Medicare/Rehab unit & the doctors want the patients up walking after surgery. It promotes circulation & prevents the joints from getting stiff. Anyways, I’m so happy with Lily’s surgery & would do it again. Her quality of life is already better than it was before!

Hi Courtney, My 8 months old Lab puppy had his surgery yesterday and today is his 1st day after operation. He is trying to stand on his leg and we are unable to control him He is trying to sleep on operated leg please help me here. Is this normal ? Or do I have to worry on this. It would be great help if you could address this 🙏
@stevenvelasquez5658 Жыл бұрын
This is normal. I have a 2-year-old with high energy who had the surgery about 3 weeks ago. She tends to forget something is wrong with her knee and will try to jump on people she knows in the neighborhood. This is not good at all. Her knee actually reluxated and we have an appointment with her vet today. HIGHLY recommend you get Trazedone which helps calm dogs and does wonders!

I am monitoring her like a kids ❤ this surgery is not a joke at all. You really need to cancel everything for at least the first 3 days....
