I'd actually load it up with 256gb RAM, install ProxMox on it, several VM copies of the same distro of Linux running, and then open as many Firefox windows in as possible as my window to the web. FireFox is my killer application. Rendering videos out with Sony Vegas on Win7 or Win10 VM is important, but only ocassionally, so only one GPU with 4 Displayport outs is necessary or driving a big monitor like the Odyssey G9. I churn out videos for YT but I don't use Resolve or Premier. I've got a 7950x no with 128gb, and the problem I run into is not that I'm limited by RAM, but by Firefox crashing when it gets too overloaded with 100 windows open, so I have to start up a totally new isolated version in another VM and spread all the Firefox tabs out. I'll probably just upgrade my system to 196gb with 48gb sticks, because moving over to Threadripper would be a step huge hit in price tag for more cores, and I'm not really limited by cores... but by software.

I realize that this video was made during the summer of 2021 but the ASUS PRO WS WRX80E SAGE SE is not the only option for mobos go for builds with multi gpus (3+). The supermicro m12swa-tf has 6 16x (cpu) pcie slots for gpus. It's significantly cheaper than the asus pro board shown here and supports threadripper pro cpus. It's currently the mobo i have installed in my workstation along with three rtx 3080s (with room for a fourth) and a threadripper pro 3955wx and is an extremely capable piece of hardware for less money. Just wanted to let people know that the ASUS PRO WS WRX80E SAGE SE is not the only option out there. Love the channel btw and the content. Keep up the good work and please stay informed! :)

I love all the awesome tech. However, what was not mentioned in this video and many others that highlight all these super powerful systems, is the amount of heat that is produced. It seems that performance is all that is focused on. Do you know what kind of heat comes out of a machine with a 250 watt TDP processor, a 350 w video card, a thousand watt power supply, nvme cards that heat up, and if we include a couple 4K monitors, whatever room this system is in is going to bake like an oven. Yes I have experience. I don't know why this detail which is so very important just isn't included in these reviews.

Oh and install 3 GPU's Hybrids if possible and leave aa slot for the 4xM.2 card. Rendering powerhouse with fast rendering load times and video scrubbing in 4K

given that most users only end up using the video outputs on one, maybe two of the GPUs (people rarely have more than 10 monitors per computer on a workstation), it would be interesting to see a build that uses some pure compute cards (no physical video outputs) like the nvidia tesla series alongside the normal GPUs, especially in a watercooled build.

I'm a 3D artist, and once I start making some real money, I'm planning to build a system like this. For a current build right now I would chose: Asus WRX80 Motherboard Threadripper 3995WX 64 Core 128 Threads, with Ice Giant Cooler For RAM I would want 1TB but after some searching I saw that there's no high speed ECC memory at large capacities so for now I would go for 8x 32GB 3200MT/s ECC DIMS's for a total of 256GB. The high speed memory doesn't make that much of a difference for rendering, but does for other general stuff. And I want to use just one system in the house. GPU: I would love to get a couple of RTX A6000 48GB cards but with the overkill pricing probably not. So I would get 2x RTX 3090 24GB, and in NVLink configuration for memory pooling of 48GB VRAM total in Blender. The rest of the PCIe 4.0 slots I would populate with as many Asus Hyper M.2 Cards as I can with at least one of them having 4x Samsung 980 Evo Pro's in Raid 0, for a read speed of 28GB/s, that will be used as the main OS drive. This is because I run hi-res simulations in Blender that can easily get to hundreds of gigabytes, for seconds of animation. So that kind of ridiculously fast SSD speed is crucial in that scenario. PSU: Asus Thor 1600W Titanium + Some kind of UPS for power outage protection. But this is now, and it also kind of sucks that Zen 3 Threadripper hasn't come out yet. Because that high Zen 3 single core performance is very important for Blender also, because those simulations and viewport playback run on single core only, as well as other things. And most of the other everyday apps rely on single core performance as well. I just hope by the time I have the money in a year or two maybe, Zen 4 Threadripper Pro is out, and won't be the same delayed Zen 3 story that it's now. And basically that would be an unbelievable home Supercomputer also. I'm drooling over it by just thinking about it: 128 Core 256 Thread Zen 4 Cores (+dual socket support for x2 that?) Terabytes of DDR5 ECC Memory, hopefully >6400MT/s Dual RTX 4000 series with at least 96GB VRAM total 56GB/s PCIe 5.0 Raid 0 SSD... This is current dual channel DDR4 RAM speed btw :) Jesus Christ!!! That would be insane!!

I am building a machine with this motherboard for After Effects, Cinema4d and Resolve. I will start out with the 3955WX, two 1070Ti, decklink 4k extreme, Focusrite Dante card and 4 drive NVME RAID. The decklink needs two slots, as the daughter cards are now attached. So you may need to get the 8K pro if you want 3 GPU and Resolve to actually be outputting to a reference monitor. You will also need to attach the two extra 6 pin and 1 extra 8 pin PCIe cables to give the motherboard adequate power for more than one GPU. The Rednet card gives me proper Atmos (7.1.4)output from Resolve chaper than any HDSDI audio converters can. You can't do that with HDMI which only has 8 channels and spatial data. The 3955WX is not going to benefit from 8 channel RAM however, so hopefully I can upgrade to the 3975WX at some point. All this will be obsolete the moment you can actually get PCIe5 and DDR5 on threadripper pro, but fingers crossed the motherboard will be able to use the new processors. Also worth mentioning that Lenovo permanently lock their processors so you can't use a threadripper Pro processor once it has been in a Lenovo machine. You really can ONLY use the the noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 I if you want to air cool this, as the dark rock will block PCIe slots and cannot suck from the otherside. Noctua is thinner and can have a fan on both sides. It will still blow upwards though. Supermicro do the only correct oriented cooler but it is small and loud I don't need ECC or registered ram, doesn't really help as far as I know with AE, Resolve or C4D. Nvidia stopped peoplke making blower style cards so probably looking at modifying and liquid cooling if you actually want 4 x 3090. and I wouldn't risk it on less than 2000W which might be hard in the us of no watts If my machine works when I set it up I will let you know!

Its seems like one GPU covers two PCI-e ports with the RTX A5000, just like the RTX 3090 in your video, but im curious if the much thinner RTX A4000 would cover only one PCI-e slot so in theory one could stack five RTX A4000 GPU's (im looking to fit only four) and a single RTX 5000 next to each other, covering the 7 PCI-e slots overall.

With the savings, you can get a larger media drive. As for a GPU, I am leaning towards a RTX3080 for this system, It has 2 gigs more Vram and this will be required for rendering complex scenes. I don't know if the 300-400 USD more for the Ti version is worth it as you can always get one RTX3080 and add a second later when the prices come down. I have a new video with rendering on two GPU coming out today, you may want to watch that video before you make a choice on GPUs. Please watch and share on your FB.

@cybermuse6917
@cybermuse6917 Жыл бұрын
If you're going multi gpu, id recommend more spacing than was shown in the video although potentially i'd opt for watercooling. Single GPU will be less hassle imo but depends on your requirements. As for the Raid card, the pcie slot has a bandwidth capability of 32GB per second. Due to the way the card works, the read/write speed bandwidth is cumulative based on the nvmes (2 x 4GB/s each = 8GB/s r/w speeds, 4x 4GB/s = 16GB/s read write). This makes the limitation for read/write the speed at which the pcie slot can transfer the information. (2GB per lane, 16 lines 32GB total). As for RAID 0,1 etc, you essentially sacrifice total storage capacity in order to store information which can be used for "duplicated data" which is used for verification that the integrity of the information is correct and the data isn't corrupted. Depends on how mission critical loosing the data would be for you. worth looking into more though so you know how it works.
@ScriptureConsolidated
@ScriptureConsolidated Жыл бұрын
@@cybermuse6917 thanks on the raid. It makes sense considering the mb came with a pcie storage card. If im understanding it correctly 3.0 m.2's at 3k or faster should max out the pcie for best results? No need to spend extra on gen 4? also I opted to use a radeon 6900xt watercooled until the new amd 7900's release.
@cybermuse6917
@cybermuse6917 Жыл бұрын
@@ScriptureConsolidated For maximising the throughput you'd want to maximise the utilisation of the pcie slot. If the mobo slot is pcie 4.0 x16 it can throughput 32gb total. (assuming the mobo slot is x16) : - pcie 3.0 nvme's will allow for up to 1GB/s per lane - pcie 4.0 nvme's will allow for up to 2GB/s per lane you could use 4 nvme 3.0 drives for a max of 16GB/s read write OR 2 Nvme 4.0 drives for a max of 16GB/s read write OR 4Nvme 4.0 drive for a max of 32GB/s read write. the pcie slot on the mobo will be fully saturated with 4.0 drives only Bear in mind buying this stuff only matters if its a bottleneck in the system and you're waiting for read write speeds which often isnt the case. Don't over invest unless you need it. If you're dead set on tinkering though maybe buy 2 4.0 drives so you can tinker and understand the possibilities, which also gives you the opportunity to expand another 2 drives in the future should you need it. That would allow for up to 16GB per sec theoretical rw speeds (usually around 7GB read 5GB write speeds so 14GB read and 10GB write speeds initially) with the option to expand to 28GB/s read and 20GB write speeds with the addition of 2 more drives. The reality is unless you're using massive data sets or file sizes, transferring files constantly harnessing this tech usually only results in a couple seconds saved per day for £££ spent. A 1 hour 4k video might by 20GB and you could move the video in 1 second or 2 seconds if you spend an extra £400 try think in terms of value for the task you want to accomplish. It's always nice to fully perfect the capability of the tech but saving 10 seconds per day is probably worth less than £400 saved or even £400 worth of investment in courses to further your understanding or development (y)

Thanks @Mediaman Studio Services for your very informative video on ASUS WX80/TR PRO workstation. Apologies for my basic question, newbie in PC builds. I intend to build one but have a dilemma. On checking the specifications on the motherboard manual it requires the following power cables. A. ATX_12V_1 B. ATX_12V_2 C. PCIE_8PIN_PWR D. ATX_PWR E. PCIE_PWR_1 F. PCIE_PWR_1 Will be using an EVGA 2000w G+ PSU which has only two EPS(CPU) 8pin (4+4). Kindly advise how I would connect the C. PCIE_8PIN_PWR socket on the motherboard.

hi kinuthia gichuhi, I would look for a ATX 12v cable to to attach the PCIe power to the MOBO. If you look at the manual, on page 21, it does show the Pin out for the PCIe power port. Now you could use the VGA ports on the EVGA 2000w G+ but you would been to get the converter cable as the 12V is on pin 1,2,3 and all the rest are ground pin. So if you want to be safe use a PSU form this compatible list. www.asus.com/Motherboards-Components/Motherboards/All-series/Pro-WS-WRX80E-SAGE-SE-WIFI/HelpDesk_QVL_Device/ But be very careful as to the pin configuration of any cables that you use.

@@MediamanStudioServices This is not correct. the motherboard takes two standard CPU ATX like any other board, and has an extra 8 pin and 6 pin PCIe connection. like in a GPU. You don't need any special PSU or cables. The images in the manual do not match the pins on the motherboard. The connectors on the motherboard are exactly yhte same as ther ones on a graphics card, including the small join between the two squares. Can we put 4x RTX A6000 together on this board so we can use them for rendering ?
@MediamanStudioServices
@MediamanStudioServices 2 жыл бұрын
yes you can, just select the right Power Supply (PSU) to provide enough wattage to the GPUs. You may want to install two PSU to feed all the GPUs as well as the MOBO. I just got my hands on one A6000 GPU and will be testing it out this week. I will post a new video soon. I will also have remote access to a GPU server with 8 units of the A6000 next week and will be doing testing and benchmark on that system and posting a video. I will do some testing with just 4 units of the A6000 for you. If you have a test scene you can supply, I can do the testing for you?

@@MediamanStudioServices Thank you so much! Yeah I thought about getting two PSUs, but do you think the corsair AX1600 is enough with the threadripper 3995WX? I know that the maximum wattage is 300w for each A6000 but it's not gonna use it all I suppose. do you have any tutorial for building 2 GPUs in one system? just in case? where do you want me to send you a test scene? Also I contacted nvidia and asked about NVlink what do you think if we have 4x A6000 together we can put 2x NVlinks together at a time right? will it be faster on unreal engine or 3d rendering too
@MediamanStudioServices

@@OliverBouEid As Unreal only uses one GPU, yes the Nvlink would help for this type of workflow. As for rendering faster for production 3D software. The only advantage using the Nvlink would be the large pool of Vram is required for very complex scenes. And if your scenes need 96GB of vram you re doing some very highend scenes.

I think we need this cable adapter www.amazon.com/Lian-Li-Power-Supply-Adapter/dp/B07Z854XG3 to connect two PSUs and turn them on together right? some other people on linustechtips do not recommend this connection check this one: linustechtips.com/topic/1347551-corsair-sf450-with-msi-gaming-trio-x-3090-gpu-3x-cables/?tab=comments#comment-14804129 also one more question regarding the 8TB NVMe SABRENT did you mount it in RAID 0 right for a speed in Davinci resolve? and did you install windows directly on this hyper card with the 4x NVMes? or did you install the windows on the Motherboard NVMes? isn't 980 pro with PCIe 4.0 faster and better than this SABRENT?

But then I did not find 1 slot nvlink. Maybe from a 2 slots (www.nvidia.com/en-us/design-visualization/nvlink-bridges/), maybe inside it's a flexible connection ? What do you think ?
@MediamanStudioServices
@MediamanStudioServices 2 жыл бұрын
there is only a total of 7 PCIe slots on the ASUS WRX80 MB, and you will need space for the Water cooling fittings between the cards, but yes you could make a system with 7 GPUs. Then it is a power issue to feed all of the GPUs and find a case that will house all this equipment. If you need this kind of system with 7-8 gpus. look at s server chassis and PCIE extensions cables. It would be way easier to build. I will be reviewing a system from Gigabyte enterprise later this month that has 8 GPU in a server case.

See the manual on page 27. Follow this pin out, but you can get cables that will work pluged into the VGA/GPU ports on any PSU, but the 12V and ground pins must match what is required. on the PSU, 12v is 12V so any PSU port will work as long as it delivers 150watt on that cable.

if i would spent that much money on a workstation , i would spent another 500 - 1000 for a custom Loop water cooled System , each RX3080/3090 water cooler accounts to ~ 160 -180 Dollar , some only use 1 Slot like this www.asus.com/Motherboards-Components/Graphics-Cards/ASUS/RTX3080-10G-EK/techspec/ Then you can use more than " only " 4 Cards ... = up to 7 , you need not that much airflow but big Radiators 3 x 360 or 2 x 420 , ok , for 7 cards even more may be If you want maximum Performancs , a custom Loop is the way you go .

I agree with you as the Blower style cards are very hard to find in the market, I have studied the 7 GPI build and there is still some issues with getting Fittings between the GPUs and what if one breaks, how to get the card out of the custom loop, need to do some quick disconnects fittings at either end of the GPU stack. it is complicated to build a 7 GPU system. & GPU would require two very powerful PSU, you would need 2800 watts just for the GPUs. Don't get me wrong, i totally agree with you and I would love to build a water cooled system, but it would take some planning and engineering to execute the build. This is why I was asking ASUS to sponsor a video for me to build one.

It's beautiful board. Too bad it's garbage. Most probably. I own X99-E WS and I can say for a fact that board IS garbage. X99-E WS has 2.5 stars in amazon. The build quality is atrocious. And to be fair I don't think things have improved. I think the entire WS lineup has that atrocious build quality. I didn't see in the video how this board sits in it's box but mine was able to rattle quite a bit, which I think is a major contributor for the issues I had down the line. I returned two boards before I got a working one. And through the years I had USB ports dying on me, SATA ports as well, until finally the entire board died. I think I did check the amazon score of this particular board and not surprisingly it wasn't high. OK I just checked it again: 3.5 stars. Not too bad but give it time, it will fall. Correction: When I say poor build quality I mean only the soldering. I think the soldering is bad. The rest of the build quality is top notch as usual for ASUS. But of course, when the soldering is bad nothing else maters. I'm gagging to buy this board but my past experiences won't let me. BTW the board I replaced my X99-E WS with - the Maximus XIII Hero Gaming also burned out in 7 months. I figured I have move away from ASUS. They disappointing me one too many times.
