As an EMT, this one hit home with me, and did it very hard. My nightmare scenario is a MCI (Mass Casualty Incident) - a time when some would have to be allowed to die so that others could be saved. Even though this was toned down to an extent for television, it presented a very graphic and hard-hitting look at just exactly what a nightmare scenario it would be in the aftermath of a situation like that, had it ever happened. Kudos to them for having ever had the courage to make it.

What you are describing is similar to the triage medical protocol for medical personnel in a war zone: those that can be immediately sent back into battle took priority over the most critical.

This episode in 1955 was"already" presenting biological attack by a foreign entity,Wu.Han and Sars 1&2 infection of 2019 with global pandemic,reminiscent of that "created attack," in 1955 episode of "Medic."

Rod Serling used fictional "CONELRAD" broadcasts during his 1961 "TWILIGHT ZONE" episode "The Shelter", which told a similar story, but never reached the actual destruction point (however, the neighbors on the block, because of their blind panic, fear and irrationality, almost end up destroying themselves).

Tom Dockery its still true about looters being shot....under martial law or state wide emergency. ...only in cases of stealing food are exempt today here in US. Or appropriate clothing weather conditions (coats, jackets )...not high end. ....ex. steal a fur coat....youre history! Bang! Bang!.

It's a standard practice of triage, especially in an isntance of mass casualties and limited supplies/help. If saving one costs 3 others their lives, or TRYING to save one that you may not even have a good chance of saving does, you've violated the oaths you take as a medical professional, not to mention the basic ethical and moral principles we have as human beings. It's what makes the show so very realistic in that regard.
