I literally start tomorrow and I’m so nervous to start my externship. I was taught mostly online due to COVID so I only had about 2 hours of hands on every week. I hope it was enough to do well.

I’m so happy I found this video, I have my externship in late March and am having the same exact thoughts and anxieties you had right before you went in lol! But listening to you talk about your experience with your preceptor and how you went about it gives me hope. I can see some of my personality in you and it seems like you’re a very joyous and motivated person, I’m a very positive person myself, the only negative side of me is my self doubts. Praying everything will be okay for my extern and that I can get a chance to really learn more as I go. Thanks for the video :)

I'm on externship now, this is my first week, but due to covid it is a program that is through the school I attend. This program has been put together by my externship coordinator and the school educational board. This video was very inspiring and helpful to my nerves. I am very confident but, also very anxious and nervous about clinic and how it will turn out due to covid kind of getting in the way and putting things behind or affecting externship. I look forward to where I will be interviewed and hired after graduation. But, thankyou so much for sharing your experience. We need beautiful MAs like you out there! If your strive hard & work hard, it all pays off. Patience is key and hard work and determination really does pay off, if you put your heart and mind in it! I wish you the best of luck in your career and thankyou for your great words of wisdom and positive attitude! You deserve what people have said about you because I haven't seen the way you work but, I can tell from a video you are an amazing soul and worker to have for a clinic and provider.

Clarissa Santiago you know all in all, you will do fine. It’s hard to mess up as an MA! Unless you can’t go Vitals. But everything else is easy! Just tell patients what you do and kinda guide them. It will get so much easier with time. I’m now working and it’s piece of cake.

This was an amazing video. I’m talking with a college and if all goes well I will start April 25-December 30th!!! I am so nervous and I’m not even enrolled yet lol. I went to school to be a lmt (licensed massage therapist) I was like this is gonna be so easy…… guuuuuurl no it wasn’t. BUT.. I proved to myself I could do it. I have a learning disability, but I want others to know that YOU CAN STILL DO IT. I worked super hard and it paid off. I got honor roll and perfect attendance and was a full time mom. So NOW I want to do medical assisting:) … again here comes the self doubt :/ I am more scared to make a mistake and be hated for it or someone thinking I’m stupid. It takes me a few times to understand. Anyways if I end up doing it I’ll let y’all know how it goes. Again thank you for the wonderful video!

Janette my last day is 2/19. It’s been an interesting journey! I had a rough start because I had no previous background in healthcare and it was an overwhelming shock at first. But the more confident I got the better the experience. Confidence really is key :) thanks for asking!

my third day I was thrown in , was told to take over the girl who was training me minus vaccines, I think I did okay but it did make me nervous because I was worried I was going to be so slow. I am pretty insecure even though I know what I am doing but I am working on my confidence and I think I will grow !

I used to work in a medical office and because of my bad anxiety I didn’t last long there because I was in there for 3 weeks I didn’t know what I was doing still and felt discourage because this other girl was working there for a month and she knew had to everything. So I’m scared for the computers and understanding what to do I also have phone anxiety 😭😭😭

Nikki NuNu well honestly at college you are gonna learn a lot at once. But always ask for help never stay stuck and move on to another subject. When u get to the real world, you will need to bring more pace. MAs need to be faster and efficient at there job when working with a provider. It’s all about time management.

I will also add to her great advice! Don’t be scared to ask questions! If you write them down, that may help you! Take lots of notes and highlight!! I have highlighters for things I want to understand better, things I know I will be on test. But I can’t stress this enough. Do not move on pretending you know something. Just go to the teacher and ask if you can get extra help with whatever you need. Usually when things are explained a different way or maybe you may be a more visual learner not really a slow learner! Maybe KZbin certain things or google so you can see it being done! People have so many different styles of learning. I’ll be praying that you find your style and learn ways to get you through! You got this 🔥🥳

My college reached out for me. I gave them 3 options and they did the rest for me. The clinic then chooses the preceptor for me in the clinic. ( whoever will train me) so ya it’s simple. Each college does if different.

Jolet Jojo well when I got experience at my externship so I have experience already. When I got my first job, I already knew how to answer there questions. For example: what would u do if you have a patient for give only a flu shot and another patient that needs to be seen by the provider? And I said “I’d give the shot to the patient first and than room the other one because that’s much quicker.

Hi, I just finished my course for M.A. and My class didn't have any externship since it was new this year. I'm curious how you got your externship or how should I go about getting an externship? Tomorrow I'm going to try calling some clinics and a few hospitals to see if they allow me to do an externship. But do you have any other recommendations on finding somewhere for externship?

xxmidnight well in many colleges and in my college, externship is mandatory. It’s park of the course. Externship really helped before I started work. It was free work for free but a lot if practice! I personally would ask ask college about advice. It’s strange to me that you don’t have externship.

We weren’t able to practice bl draw or injections on eachother either only on manniquins. Bc the program is new I doubt they’ll have much information on that but I’ll message and ask. xxmidnight your instructor doesn’t seem he/she knows what they are doing. I think that practice is needed before you go into the real world. It’s scary. You do need to know EKG. Yes externship will help you but clinics will expect you to know a lot. I hope you well:) just be confident.
