No ways I am planning to study medicine in Hungary and just stumbled across your video, and immediately picked up your SA accent 😂. I live in Botswana 🇧🇼. Glad to know there will be other Africans in Hungary. Do you think you have received a good educational experience in Hungary?
@CamMedLife
@CamMedLife 5 ай бұрын
Haha, the accent is hard to miss if you know it. 😂 I have to be completely honest with you, some of the classes are good but a lot of self-teaching is needed too. The language barrier plays a factor because a lot of professors (mainly in lectures - most of which you don’t need to go to) struggle to vary tone and make it interesting in English. Additionally, the Uni has a massive focus on theory and very little focus on practical skills which can be frustrating. That being said, it is an option…the degree opens doors post-graduation even if it means you need transfer exams for certain countries and the practical skills can be made up in residency (just going to make it harder).

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!! I'm from the Philippines, by the way. I'm just curious, do you know any asian students currently studying in your school?

Hey, thanks for your comment. It’s awesome to know that my videos have reached people in different countries such as the Philippines. There are quite a few students in the medical faculty from Japan, China, South Korea and I’m sure there are a few others. The majority of students in the English program are either from Norway or the Middle-East but there is definitely some diversity.

I notice you said you’re from South Africa. What grades did you get in matric that allowed you to get into Pécs ?
@CamMedLife
@CamMedLife 10 ай бұрын
I did well but I wasn’t at the very top of the achievers. I ended with 5 distinctions and 3 subjects in the 75-79% range. I did also have a year of Pre-Med in the US though which helped get me exemption from the entrance exam. In general, I think the grades from school matter but as long as you do pretty well and then impress in the entrance exam, you should be good.

hey, what do you think of the university of szeged. is it as good as pecs
@CamMedLife
@CamMedLife 4 ай бұрын
Hey, it is very similar in ranking with the University of Pécs so there isn’t much difference. Szeged is a little bit more known for their practical involvement (from what I have heard) but I can’t confirm as I haven’t studied there. Pécs is a little more known for a tough and volume heavy theoretical focus in the first 2 years…at the end of it all, I think you come out of both institutions with a relatively similar standing.

Does pecs offer dormitories and a cafeteria which provides meals 3x a day so we don’t need to cook our own food? 😭
@CamMedLife
@CamMedLife 5 ай бұрын
There are multiple dormitories yes, 5 in total but I only really recommend Szántó Dormitory. I was there in first semester and it was nice to meet people and settle in a bit but in all the dorms, you have roommates in the same room so it isn’t feasible long term for medical students (in my opinion). There is a cafeteria at the university but it isn’t like a uni in the US where you get a food card or vouchers and stuff included. You would have to pay for each meal. Hope this helps!

@@CamMedLifehi is it easy to gain GP clinical experience after graduation in hungary? what about language barrier?
@CamMedLife
@CamMedLife 4 ай бұрын
@@javadbagheri7532Hey I’m not entirely sure what you mean by gain GP clinical experience? The language barrier is not a big problem in the hospitals as we learn how to do a medical interview in Hungarian during our first 2 years at the University. It doesn’t allow for a full conversation but we learn the important questions and the common answers that tend to be given. Of course, it would be a better experience to communicate with patients in your own language though.

Is Racism something i should be concerned about? I am a brown Indian if that helps...
@CamMedLife
@CamMedLife Жыл бұрын
Hey, this isn’t an easy question for me to answer because I can only go based on my experience and from the few conversations I’ve had with others. Someone else might have had different experiences to me and have a completely different perspective. I can’t say that I myself have seen/heard any racism and I get the feeling that the people in the city I’m in (Pécs) are quite accepting of international students for the most part. I can’t talk for everyone though and I don’t really know what it is like in other cities as I haven’t lived in any of them for an extended period of time.
