Hadley, I watched your MCAT prep video the other night because I’m a little hung up as well as you were. So of course, this vid was naturally going to hit my feed. I’m old enough to be your dad and a non-trad student of the highest order. WVU and I have been in talks, and this will be the ONLY school I will apply to as I plan to stay in WV for the remainder of my working years. I wanted to tell you that I respect your story and your faith, and I can’t tell you how happy I am for your success. God has it all under control and I expect to actually meet you in the very near future. Please stay in WV for your career and give some serious thought to the MATTERS program. This state desperately needs great physicians. I’ll see you at school.

This makes me so excited!! And to eventually be able to talk about how we achieved our goals someday. Are you from West Virginia? I have visited twice now and it has a special place in my heart and I am already interested in rural medicine (not sure of a specialty) but I just love the state. And was the school you are interested in West Virginia University or the osteopathic school? They use them so interchangeably but the osteopathic school is where I will be. Even if we are at different schools rotations may make our paths cross. Good luck with your mcat if you havent taken it already and I know you will get into your chosen school🙏🏼

@@HadleyFaith Thanks for reaching back out. I was “today years old” when I learned there was a DO school there. My track and history in medicine was entirely allopathic, so it never entered the equation. I am not from WV. I’m from Va Beach. My family and I moved to Buckhannon after I retired from the military. I reached out to Lauren (she’s a saint) after I got my affairs in order, and shortly thereafter, made the mistake of biting off on the big money that defense contracting and intelligence work. Well… I’m back again, starting the process all over. My FL MCAT scores were trash, so I’m covering O-chem again and making another run after three years. My undergrad is in psych, so you can probably see the mountain I’m trying to climb. At any rate, welcome home to WV. I’ve been all over the globe a thousand times and this is my forever home. Nothing else comes close. As you can probably tell with the snow on the ground, you’ll need an SUV or a pickup truck to handle Morgantown’s lovely pothole assortment. Never forget that the program is designed to pass. They can’t rack up your school loans if you fail, so try to relax. I’ll be pulling for you, kid! I have a Facebook like all the other old people if you need to reach out directly, and no, I’m not a weirdo. Take care!

Congrats on your acceptance! And thank you for your videos, they’re not only helpful but encouraging. Since you applied to DO schools, what resources did you use to navigate AACOMAS? I’m also a first gen and not sure what to do
@HadleyFaith4 күн бұрын
Omg great question! I applied to MD and DO and halfway through found out you have to use 2 different things: AMCAS and AACOMAS. Ugh makes it so challenging. But what i did is I wrote my personal statement. Super important because this is how they will differentiate you from the rest and I would talk to your premed advisor or watch youtube videos about what theyre looking for in those personal statements that are DO specific. Then you have to get all official college transcripts (i had community college and state college) so i had to pay for them to send the official one.. then you have to input EVERY class with credit hour, subject, class name, and grade. (There are resources on the acomas website of how to categorize each class). You also have to send your official transcript FROM THE SCHOOL to the ACOMAS so that they can verify what you inputted. then you triple check that😂 then i gathered my letters of recommendation (usually 1-2 science professors, optional general professor, and a doctor (preferred DO) and then a personal) i gathered these on Interfolio. Thats a whole nother process tbh but easy to figure out i think. So once you have those you can link them to your acomas profile (the acomas website explains how to use Interfolio to connect the letters) and then i picked my most important activities and wrote a story about each one, i would refrain from writing “i did this. I did that.” I would try to paint each activity with a story so the person reviewing your profile really understands you as a person through these activities. I am struggling to think of more… but truly i think you can find most struggles online but hopefully this helped a bit. If you have specific questions you can always email me at hadleybfaith@gmail.com and i can try to help!

Some schools have premed programs and some dont. So Indiana University doesn’t have one so you just take the classes you need to get into your medical school of choice (which is usually on the medical schools information website). I’m not sure how a school with an actual premed works… but you can always apply for scholarships after you get accepted to a university by finding them on the school website
