Wow! It impresses me how you can carry so much understanding to make these recordings in long continuous single takes. Regarding cartilage degeneration, especially in osteoarthritis, I like to remind students that while there is proliferation of the condrocytes happening, the problem is it can't get to the right place. Healthy cartilage looks like a sprinkling of individual chondrocytes each surrounded by the dense cartilaginous matrix it secretes. When these cells die (a part of aging), they can't be replaced exactly where they were. Although little clusters of chondrocytes proliferate elsewhere, they can't migrate. The only way to rebuild the desired distribution would be to "start from scratch" by recapitulating fetal development. We don't know how to make that happen (yet).

Thank you, Dr. Sadofsky. And, as always, you make an excellent point! There are clusters of chondrocytes, doing their best, but, alas, in the wrong place!!
