Sir, you are partially right regarding the qualifications of the doctor conducting MTP upto 12 week of gestation. Any MBBS doctor who has experience of conducting at least 25 cases of MTP under direct guidance of Obstetricians in a government setup, can perform MTP upto 12weeks of gestation. MTP upto 20 weeks gestation was legal according to MTP act 1971.

Sir, Terminaton of pregnancy is allowed at any place when the abortion is immediately necessary. If you look at section 5, it creates an exception to condition of registered places i.e. Section 4. However, the act shall be attempted by registered medical practitioner only.

For this law I would like to add that although it is a great effort by the government but the entire focus of the law is on the birth of the child. But reality is lot more than that.
