I love your down to earth advice and encouragement! Last spring I received my certificate in medical coding from our local community college and in July passed the CCA exam. I watched your video about preparing for the CCA exam and took your advice to use the books and practice looking up codes. I am now currently applying for a job as a medical coder. I really appreciate your advice to apply for jobs that require CCS certification or years of experience. Thank you for the help!

You are absolutely right, Bleu!! I grew up w/no technological advantages like today’s kids. No internet. No computers. No cheat sheets. No video/no video replays. And -No diagnosis or treatment of ADHD. No excuses!! Nevertheless- today I am lucky to be able to have this opportunity to learn medical coding even after recently diagnosed with n placed on meds for my ADHD, which has not really helped me during my journey today. (I have succeeded in obtaining my RN license n have worked in the field for 20 years!). But now want to continue my career in coding- something not bedside! Again. Thank you for your great advice. Medical coding is a well respected field and I am glad you take it seriously!!

When I learned how to do billing and coding under the ICD-9 system (years ago), I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to learn on the job. I was in referrals and our biller quit and I kind of got thrown into it. I remember how confused and overwhelmed I felt trying to learn these codes...procedure codes, diagnosis codes, all the things. But I noticed that the more I did it the better I got at it and the more I understood. So I completely get what you're saying.

Hey Bleu. New subscriber. I have my CPC-A and work at an IP mental health hospital doing mostly ICD 10 coding. I love my job but I really miss CPT coding. I took your advice and bought the 2019 ICD 10 CM/ICD 10 PCS 2019 Coding Handbook and the Optum ICD 10 PCS books. I had my husband go through the book for me and cover the answers 😂. I'm going for my CIC with AAPC but hoping to sit for the CCS in the near future all because of your videos. I really appreciate your candor and honestly. PCS coding is a very different animal and i thought it would be simple, I was so wrong but I know it will be worth it. Thank you for everything you do.

I am 53 and just learning. My troubles from head injuries throughout my life, I have trouble remembering. I studied for the NHA and only thankful now after Sept 24 2024 we dont have to use the books anymore. I love looking up codes and that was the part I failed on the exam lol I only missed by 7 pts. So thankful to take it my second time. The Revenue section I did better on then I thought and I love the insurance section. Thank you for your video.

Ma'am, I suggest you study more to get comfortable with the books. The real world is not multiple choice and you will have to know the books when you're taking employer tests. You should also consider carefully the credential you get as employers are particular.

I’ll be 35 this year. I wanted to do this since I was 21. Life happened, people gave me well intended bad advice and since I was young, I followed their advice. I don’t mind the books, I love books in general. I don’t mind anatomy, medical terms, etc. I use to read the dictionary for fun lol The only thing I mind is when other people put things in our minds and waste our time. If this is what you wanna do, just do it and be the best of the best. Be disciplined. And persistent.
