Congrats! I took my CPC cert exam on 05/31 and passed. That was my second try. Honestly, I didn't really study that hard. Just took all the practice exams. Took it at home so I didn't have to drive to the testing center. Working now through the Practicode to remove the apprenticeship. I did mine within 2 months on my own directly with AAPC. They only give you 5 months to complete the course but you have a year to take your certification exam.

Wow I can relate to everything you said it describes my experience except that I didn’t pass on my first try to I’m going to retake it again. Right now I’m just studying again but I will definitely look at the videos you recommended because yes 2.5 minutes to answer 100 questions was insane and that was my downfall because I didn’t finish on time but thank you for sharing your experience I really appreciate it and congrats to you on being a coder 🎉❤

I heard so many horror stories about the proctors and it makes me nervous. I am studying through a community college, but we only get one voucher. I would hate to waste it, but I have test anxiety as well & would prefer to be at home plus the closest testing facility is over an hour, and I have driving anxiety which would not go well before my exam.

Last I was told you can go back 2 years for your coding books. Year 2025 can use 2023 2024 or 2025 Books.

I paid roughly around $3k that includes the books, membership with AAPC, and two attempts for the exam. I think that was a bargain. This was directly with the AAPC. Also, I paid for the practicode which is a set of 600 case studies that you code to help remove the A from the CPC.

I enrolled with Penn Foster, super user friendly. Only $1000 if paid in full, $1,499 if you decide to go with monthly payments. You can literally start by paying just $20. Then monthly payments you can choose how much but not less than $59 a month. It’s a very fun program, it has games and flash cards and staff to assist you at any time. It includes a membership to the AAPC and exam fees. (Unlimited, they will pay until you pass) Goodluck ❤ (i still need to buy my own books for the exam)

My college only offers CCA certification. Is that the better option? I apologize if this should be common sense but I am very new to this as well..thank you!

dont apologize it’s okay not to know! The CCA is similar to the CPC course that I took but i don’t know enough about it to give advice on which one is better. I would look up medical coding/billing job postings to get an idea on whether or not they are hiring people with CCAs!

Its a good certification, you can work inpatient or outpatient. So you can have more job opportunities. They test you on both ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS and CPT. Though please look at job postings around you see if its in demand. I would encourage if they offer CCA maybe just sit for the CCS when its time to test for certification. CCA, in my opinion, is seen like apprentice/entry level, most places ask for CCS around my area. If you just want to focus on outpatient coding go with the AAPCs CPC or AHIMAs CCS-P, these test on ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, CPT. ICD-10-PCS is a whole other way of coding for inpatient, it has its own rules and gudlines and can be a lot to remember both sets of rules and guidelines for inpatient and outpatient.

Currently in MBC course but im taking it for free through this program here in my state they pay for everything books, and for you to sit and take the exam 1 time etc the teacher i have is absolutely amazing im almost done april is graduation we have about 6-7 books😅 but for the most part the anatomy and pathophysiology isnt hard just kicking my ass cuz i been outta school so long

Loved the video but why would you say you don’t know how much it is then knowing that your mom paid for it and then proceed to say why your mom paid like $1500. Like just say the course was around $1500 but you didn’t pay for it.

I said idk how much it is currently because of inflation and also price differs based on the package you build for yourself. Why would I say “idk how much the course is, I didn’t pay for it” and leave it there when the goal of the video is to give my experience of the certification process? It would almost sound like I was hiding something or being dishonest without the extra context I provided about my mom paying and how much the course was for me :)

Through a college? Mine was $1500-self-paced, online, accredited through Preppy. Then I just pay to take the AAPC exam. I got my transcript and certification in the mail from Auburn University.
