I have medical PTSD After spending 12years in pain and being treated like a drug addict. Two.colorectal surgeons refused to ha a defagram study on me and told me that I was “ just constipated from all the pain medicine I was on”. It wasn’t until a third colorectal surgeon agreed to see me even though I was on narcotic pain medicine and she ordered the defagram study( the test I needed all those 12 years) and actually found out I had been suffering from a clorectal Enterocele!! Every time I had a bowel movement my intestine was being pushed in between my abdominal cavity and my pelvic cavity and being strangulated and not allowing me to pass stool!! My life was destroyed because doctors assumed I was a drug addict when in fact I had true pain all those years. She did surgery immediately and from then on I never had that pain again!!

Now I have a titanium plate in my neck with screws and while still in pain at least i dont have weakness, shooting pain, and I have MRI's and X-rays that show I actually have a problem. A lot of days I'm not even angry I'm just shocked that doctors can have so little due diligence and empathy for what they charge. All I wanted was a solution of some kind and while not opposed to therapy it ain't gonna help cure or tolerate the level of pain I have without medication.

I was in a psych hospital and given Abilify. It made me restless and like I wanted to pee all the time tho I didn't need to. When I told this to the doctor, he turned to the resident next to him and said, "this is an alpha..." something (it's receptors). So I knew from him explaining to the resident that this was something he expected. I growled, "you _knew?_ And you _didn't tell me?_ I tell all my doctors, now, ever since him (he never paid attention to me) that I expect every healthcare practitioner to treat me as a peer. I ask questions until I am satisfied that I know what I need to know, how I need to understand it. I say that up front so there's no vagueness between us. My psychiatric nurse practitioner brings that up in group sometimes (with my permission) that I said the same thing to her the first day. I think she does that to to empower the other people in the group. I'm glad she does. I can't stand being ignored by my doctor. I've fired a couple of doctors for ignoring me.

Good for you! Drs can be very arrogant sometimes. Not all of them of course. But it takes some good questioning to weed the bad ones out. I was transferred to another Dr when mine left the area. At my first appt with him he began questioning me in strange ways that raised my defenses. I am on a mild anti-anxiety medication and have been for years. He knows nothing of my history as to why nor did he ask. Unbeknownst to me he lowered my RX count and also drug tested me for multiple street drugs. That’s right. At 68 I stand on street corners to make huge amounts of money by selling these little pills to supplement my retirement. He must have been very disappointed at the results of testing me. In addition, at that first appointment he said in a very derogatory tone, “so what, are you a nurse or something?” He said it was because of the terms I was using. Feeling threatened much? I actually was a surgical unit secretary for 20 years and must have absorbed too much medical terminology, part of my job. What an arrogant jerk! I held my own fine. But when I saw my lab results on the portal I went ballistic on him and fired him. Later I discovered my medication dosage had been lowered from 3 per day to 2. But I had the last laugh on him as my previous Dr had doubled the strength of my dosage. That was so I could cut them in half and have enough to cover me for my 2 month annual vacation in FL. He just never changed it back because he knew and trusted me. So after I decided on a new primary, at my first appt he asked me how he could be the Dr I needed him to be and what things were very important to me. I had just one word. Trust. I would gladly trust him if he would trust me, which meant I could ask any questions I needed to. He said “of course, that goes without saying, unless I find something to doubt about you in which case I will give you the benefit of the doubt and ask you about it first”. I have had a great relationship with him now for several years. Is it any wonder that he no longer takes on new patients? He is well respected by all. People need to remember that the Dr works for them, they are not there for the Dr. It is their right to stand up for themselves and in this day and age, being your own health advocate with anyone who treats you may save your life. Stay informed, well read and understand fully your diagnosis(ses) so you can ask intelligent questions and no one takes advantage of you.

@orangesnowflake37695 ай бұрын
Are you sure your neurotypical because they aren't that loud
@lesliehyde5 ай бұрын
Cold- well, vast majority of bacteria like being nice and warm so they can spread their joys around and cooler temperatures keep this under a bit of control. Fix- it's called layers..... add some more if needed. Uncomfortable- hospitals are filled with mass produced medical equipment and unless a patient has a bed sore or at high risk for one, they aren't going to be "getting" a semi more comfortable mattress. Fix- sorry, you're not going to want a more "comfortable" mattress cause they are noisy as frick. Loud- well, one, less surfaces create less hiding places for bacteria while at the same time having less surfaces to "absorb" sound. Asking these questions about a hospital? Are you sure you aren't not neurotypical? Only ask cause I'm not neurotypical and go through these questions myself before remembering "oh yeah, it's a hospital but I shouldn't be here for more than 6 days".

But thank you: you're probably the only person i have heard talk about medical trauma & medical ptsd as real.... Psychiatric services here, 98% of the time, don't understand it as being real. Thank you for normalising just talking about it.

I've had a few traumatic surgical experiences. I've learned though that if someone's gaslighting, etc watch their face. And listen to pauses. Those speak volumes. If your refused antibiotics, ask why. I had a procedure done to straighten my septum and the doc went thru the septum. I asked for antibiotics and was refused. The next day pus was oozing out my nose. I called and he admitted to slipping and cutting thru my nasal septum. Jerk...

@@susiemauldin1405 thank you. It’s a rough syndrome because it’s genetic and all you can do is treat the symptoms. You’re spot on regarding doctor’s having experienced pain often correlating with how they understand and treat chronic pain patients. I know a doctor who told me himself that living with chronic pain changed is perspective dramatically. I also had a nurse who was treating a chronic wound comment how she felt that patients struggling to cope with the pain during wound care and dressing changes on relatively superficial wounds. She then had to go through it herself after a motorcycle accident left her with a wound on top of her kneecap. When she found herself crying out in pain during a dressing change, she immediately saw patients who had done the same thing whilst she cleaned their wounds in a different light and realised it could REALLY hurt.

Same to many triggers before and after the surgery., oxygen to 70 on my pulse ox. Can’t get air in nor out. Told many things when I asked. Started to receive papers from my insurance company saying I was enrolled in their severe, high risk asthma program. Given asthma action plans. Told ask your Doctor, I did. I never was told asthma. Never told anything about asthma action plan. I keep asking because I want to feel safe in any future medical procedure where I will be put out. Am I somehow wrong to keep asking? Would someone with severe, high risk asthma need special care before, during and after surgery? I just want to ask these questions. Someone I can trust would be helpful.

As time has gone on, I have worked with some doctors whose attitude might in some cases might affect their judgment. However, they are few. The fact is that all the prior screening does not filter out all the bad candidates. Also, sometimes some people get worse over time. Regarding the difference in compassion between a doctor that has had pain versus one who hasn't, I've had a similar experience. I had a primary care doctor that was useless; anytime i went to her for anything, I got incomplete or difficult to apply answers. Sure, she diagnosed my ovarian cyst, but she literally told me nothing about how to manage it at home aside from "wait it out". Also, I have to assume the records would show that anesthesia meds were given before surgery. So, these unsuspecting patients were overdosed by this criminal. Did anyone finally get an answer from the criminal on why he did that. Thank you for explaining about how these medicines work in soft tissue. Did this criminal earmark specific IV bags for surgeries he was assigned to or were other patients harmed by unsuspecting staff? I hope not. I awaken with no repercussions. My doctor refuses to use it, and to be honest, that puts me in a panic. So abit of a pet peeve of mine is when people misuse the term gas lighting throwing it around for anytime someone was being deceived or lied to. Gas lighting is an INCREDIBLY rare and almost never seen behavior. Gas lighting is the destruction of someones confidence in their own sanity, it's done by slow methodical manipulation that involves lying to someone to the point where they can't trust their own version of reality, Their ability to discern the reality around them has been destroyed. Leaving them completely vulnerable to accepting whatever reality their abuser deploys them. It is not when somebody lied to you one time.

Yes, one off lies are not gaslighting even by more than one person. But when you go from doctor to doctor being told the same lies because doing their job is too much effort, you do begin to doubt and many have accepted they are mentally ill when they had an organic medical problem. I have a whole collection of case studies on it. Maybe we need a better vocabulary for it when a whole profession is doing it as opposed to the complicated one on one scenario shown in the movie it takes it's name from.

For example 1) skin is different - ask dr to look into why a spot changed 2) blood sugar problem 3) diarreah 4) back pain. Well, you have to narrow it down to only 1 or two or come back for another visit because you have exceeded your doctor's capacity to listen and treat you. You have to pay for another visit to get more help with more than 2 problems.

From what I've read, it seems that Ortiz was not intending to kill patients, but he was EXTREMELY CARELESS. If he prepared IV bags for liposuction cases that were scheduled for that day, he is obligated to LABEL the bags with the additives. Even during a code blue response, I, as the responding pharmacist, prepare a label for any IV bag that I have adulterated. Additionally, NO ONE should assume an unwrapped bag is NOT adulterated. If a bag is unwrapped and subsequently not used, it should be cut and discarded. NO EXECPTIONS. These bags have a negligible cost that the surgical center/hospital could negotiate reimbursement from the manufacturer.

My question is, when someone injects an IV bag with a small needle, can’t a nurse squeeze the bag and feel the pressure leaking out? Also, shouldn’t there be some kind of steps the nurses can take to check this type of thing? I almost think a technology should be built into the plastic bag where it indicates whether a needle has punctured it (perhaps by changing color or leaking some kind of food color into the bag once the needle punctures the second later (so the IV bag would have a thin bag around it, sturdy, that holds some kind of color or gas where, if it is punctured, it will visually show a difference to the nurse).
@katiekane52475 ай бұрын
A large percentage of IV bags have an additive, most frequently Potassium to correct low values. The injection port is designed to self seal after being poked with a needle. You'd have no way to know and a system to detect any puncture there might be difficult.

My throat was sore afterwards, it was a nurse in passing that said you gave us a fright in theatre, and proceeded to tell me what happened. But no Dr came to formally tell me what happened. Luckily for that honest nurse. I’ve had to tell every other anaesthetist about it ever since and they say there’s various ways he can anaesthetise and will chose a more suitable one for me. Lost so much trust in Drs, the further away I am from them the healthier I am. That’s not to say there aren’t decent drs out there, but they’re few and far between.

This is why I always have ALL my surgeries video taped!! As a medical professional, I select and dismiss residents and anesthesiologists from participating in my procedure!! ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

Weren’t the drugs he was using monitored?
@dl9gwd25 ай бұрын
Not. In my cath lab we have buvicaine as local while pacemaker implantation , ephidrine + norephidrine in prepair fer CPR while PCI s , atropine fer bradycardia while PCI , disoprivane + midazolame fer sediation , tirofibane and eptifibatid a very strong thrombolytic fer some kind of PCI in patients with myocardial infarction . Also an automatic pump with norephidrine fer cardiogenic shock, Only morphine is monitored and stored in a safe. But only we 4 cardiologists and our nurses have acces to the cath labs.

I love you. ❤ your compassion and kindness is admirable! I am a RN and also a consumer of the health care system of late due to multiple spinal fractures. I have medical ptsd due to the poor care and obnoxious attitudes of medical staff. ❤ it’s very sad, I’ve never in my life treated any of my patients badly and I can not understand those who do!

You will never see me in a drs office or EMERGENCY ROOM. I have major distrust in this whole industry top to bottom.

I know of many people that died young because they didn't want to be murdered by medical personnel..And doctors are still dishing out opiates although you have to be willing to go through unnecessary invasive dangerous exams and testing and run your insurance outrageously..

That's nothing wrong with opiates per se. It's the people who abuse them and the unqualified Drs dishing them out. There is a war on pain patients in this country right now.

I love Dr. Kaveh, he is awesome! I have been putting off getting a colonoscopy over fears of a perforation. Should I be worried? I am a 59 y/o old male with no symptoms.

Thank you for this, but I have almost zero hope and trust in doctors, especially in surgeons. I am so tired of surgeons who push injections and surgery, before other available therapies are discussed. They promote the more profitable $$ treatments up front. How many unnecessary surgeries and injections have been performed that could have been avoided. That should be criminally liable.
