I just had an ankle arthroscopy a few days ago and I am one of those people who wants to go back to sleep! I live with some very painful disorders so having that break from it all is just blissful nothingness! So as soon as they wake me I half jokingly tend to yell “put me back!”. I usually get a few laughs 😂

Problem identified "health system". If all healthcare were to revert to private sector (as in health ins. as well as govt. subsidies) eleminated. Therefore, hospitals, doctors etc. would HAVE TO COMPETE FOR OUR DOLLARS AND THEREFORE WOULD RAISE THE LEVEL OF CARE AND THEREFORE TREATING US AS CUSTOMERS WHO PAY THEM VS. GOVT SUBSIDISED STUPID GOATS; we would be healed rather than "treated". Fuck off AMA, you are evil.

I had a friend swapping dilaudid with phenergan… We were both addicted nurses, and even I told him that he was going way too far. He got caught, lost his license, got it back, and just got caught again last month just a few months after completing a diversion program. Addiction is a beast. I recovered more than a decade ago, he’s clean now and can’t believe what he did. In retrospect, he’s gobsmacked about his own behavior. He’s getting a third chance starting quite soon, by the way. The original hospital only knew he was stealing dilaudid, not swapping it and breaking sterility. His plea bargain with the board stopped a full investigation, which undoubtedly would have resulted in various charges; there are a few other things he was doing that I’d rather not mention online.

I was diagnosed at 11 by a team of doctors with OCD, GAD, and Panic Disorder. I've had many surgeries, tonsils, adnois,3 c-sections, elective plastic surgery, and oral surgery, to name some. I've never had one anesthesiologist who wasn't amazing. They all come in after going over my chart and seeing my psychiatric meds assume (rightfully so) that I'm going to be a mess. But they either have to wake me up (I'm not a morning person lol) and they are shocked and say "Guess you can't be that nervous" or when they start to tell me "I'll be fine, they'll give me medication to keep me calm" I immediately explain to them that oddly enough, I LOVE being put to sleep. I don't know why but before, after, even having to stay in the hospital. It's like a vacation from my brain because I Know I can't do anything. Maybe the pain is a distraction from my thoughts. Who knows but it's very strange. I'm also told I'm very hard to knock out. Have no clue why, but they've all said it. I'm guessing it has to do with my mental health issues.

If i need to look into someone’s throat and they tell me they have a sensitive gag reflex, I have then hold the tongue depressor themselves, they are not likely to gag themselves. Not that this is applicable to your case, but it preserves a patient’s locus of control.

I come out of anesthesia violently. They've had me in restraints because I start throwing punches. Not because I believe there was no surgery done, it's those drugs they pump you full of. I always warn them ahead of time. Not my fault if they don't heed my warning.

That’s not nothing new they’ve been doing that. I thought they had already put a stop to that because it’s so many things that you have to do when you’re administer medication to patients in the hospital all that medication gotta be accounted for so the fact that this is still happening is really crazy work so it’s like they trying to create loop holes, because that was supposed to been handled a long time ago

I think you're right about the risks. It can also be ironically a major contributing factor to anxiety and sleep issues in my opinion in regards to long term use. CBD on the other hand, this is something worth studying further and as you mentioned, the effects of natural organic cannabis. This said, I know a friend that is on the spectrum that does have very positive effects from it, and am not necessarily against the legalisation of it, more that as you mentioned; the strain has been manipulated and hijacked so much over the years it creates a TOXIC level of things such as THC. Keep on doing what you're doing, we need more open minded Doctors such as you to speak up and represent truth about the dangers of big Pharma 👏

Being under anesthesia is the craziest feeling, it feel like you literally just blinked and that whole chunk of time was just completely erased, it doesn’t feel like sleeping because even when you sleep you can tell some time passed by but anesthesia just feels like you closed your eyes for a second

No no no He described it oddly Anesthesia Makes you unable to form new memories and able to feel pain. And they give you pain meds aswell. People waking up during anesthesia usually don’t feel pain because the pain meds. So ask your doctor i would like pain meds so you’re not anxious. So if you wake up in the surgery you will only feel the poking no pain though just touch. That might sound scary to some people feeling like your being touched while under but its VERY unlikely and if it does happened no need to worry you wont feel any pain just touch

Woooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I'm today years old learning this😱 Crazy given the amount of surgeries I've had since a tender young age.😮 I am so dumbfounded also given the fact I "woken up" like twice when I was very little one time they they noticed right away and the other was a little delayed in their response and I could feel/see/experience what was going on but couldn't talk bc i had that muzzle thing on and couldn't move but it was delayed but caught fast if that makes any sense. They like look over at my open eyes both times and I fell back into that "sleep state" that I know now is not the case. I am so anxious now.

I always come overly prepared for any doctors visit. It's MY BODY! I drive them nuts at first but after a bit they end up working with me and involving me in the process more. DO YOUR RESEARCH PEOPLE! Doctors don't have time to stay current on everything. There's a tactful way to educate them!

I woke up in the middle of a colonoscopy once. I remember briefly waking up, seeing my doctor at the end of the table and he yelled and cancelled it and immediately put me back under. But I remember him saying "nope. We're done" I also remember a very weird, vivid dream that I had 9 different buttholes and they were color coordinated during that colonoscopy lol

I'm a Christian and I always pray for the doctors, nurses and staff in hospitals, clinics , nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and home health care. They deal with people's lives every day and they need our prayers. I have been through several surgeries during my life and the worst one was right shoulder replacement surgery. OMG !! The pain I suffered afterwards was horrible. My anathesiaist was great at the hospital. But my surgeon sent me home without any pain medication which is insane and barbaric! I had no medical or mental or addiction reasons for not having pain medication. I found out that he doesn't believe in pain medication. I would love to saw through his bone and muscle and then not let him have pain medication ! I was crying and couldn't eat or sleep for 3 days until after I threatened to call the medical board on him that he sent in a perscription for pain medication for me. Needles to say he will never touch me again. He did the same thing to his other female patients but not his male patients. One of my friends he did her knee replacement surgery is suing him because he put the wrong size knee ball in her knee causing her horrible pain and no pain medication ! He's insane ! A terrible doctor. It was over a year ago when he replaced my right shoulder and I still don't have full use of my arm and shoulder! And I'm right handed. I fell this year and fractured my left knee and I guarantee you he didn't touch my knee !! I told the clinic I wanted a different doctor and to never put me with him again. The doctor I got was ok. Fortunately I didn't need surgery on my knee, just a cast for 4 months. I had spinal surgery, lumbar and cervical from ruptured disc's after an accident when a young woman hit my car at 70 mph while she was on her phone. But after going into my surgeons office for a follow-up and seeing 4 of his patients in wheelchairs and none of them started out in them, he had done 3 to 5 spinal surgeries on them and put them in those chairs ! That was it for me! No more back surgery for me !!! I have had 9 people hit my vehicles, 8 were on their cell phones while driving. I didn't even own a cell phone yet. One was driving 80 mph trying to catch all the lights on yellow in a 30 mph zone. He broadsided my vehicle when I was crossing the intersection on green. He was still way back from the light when I started across the intersection and within seconds he was on me !! He was 19 and from Atlanta Georgia. I couldn't walk without my leg giving away without warning and causing me to fall, I fell down my basement stairs twice because of it until I had spinal surgery. I'm going to think hard before allowing a surgeon to operate on me again! It's going to have to be a die or do situation. I have not been told that I did anything funny while still under anathesia.

As a person being treated for chronic depressive state, I have little faith in the drug I am prescribed. It doesn't seem to be doing much. I'm under constant stress from many sources, and I'm 76, so youth is not on my side. I'm not suicidal, because I fear pain, but still, I feel like I'm just marking time until my days are over. Everything feels like too much trouble, and I can no longer afford the things that interest me and give me joy. You mentioned people 'confiding' in you as they go under anesthesia; I wonder how they can do this, as it is my understanding that the majority of people are intubated during this process, thereby rendering them unable to speak. I've had bilateral knee replacements, and I know I was intubated, because I asked before being taken to the O.R.

As a Gen Z myself I can testify that the cell phone addiction is, in fact, something I use to distract me from my crippling feelings of depression, loneliness, and worthlessness. The price I pay is my attention span. I want to be capable of understanding and learning for long periods of time but I've since lost the ability. Im trying to slowly get away from technology and regain my attention.
