Almost all advantage plans have worldwide emergency coverage, but you cannot be out of the country for more than 120 days at a time. Humana being one of the harder companies to deal with but overseas they will all be difficult to deal with. Also, know that depending on the country you maybe required to pay first the entire bill and then submit it to your insurance company for a reimbursement for their share from the insurance company

Medicare pays partially some services inside the US. If you want to get health insurance abroad, get Plan N supplement and get reimburse with your expenses upon arrival in the US. ( it is only emergency that pays Plan N). Medicare also deduct a monthly premium ($164.90-2023) Medicare Part B. Part A has no charge. Medicare Supplement Plan N today cost $143-$150/month and it increases based on your age. In addition you get Rx coverage which is Part D Medicare.

Not all Medicare Advantage plans are created equal. Best one's are group plans, is PPO, good in and out of network with World-wide coverage as well as in the USA, usually more costly and with higher deductibles, longer out of country acceptance . You also need cash upfront($1000-$20,000+?) and file for reimbursement later like they do in the Philippines.

Thank you Vlogger Grandpa for your channel, I am learning a lot from you. I work for Anthem as a medical underwriter for employer groups, we do not cover anyone who lives or works overseas for more than 6 months. That is why those who plan to retire in the Philippines must make sure that their Medicare Advantage plan will still cover them should the carrier find that they are really not living in the States. Of course, they can use their relative's or friend's address as their mailing address, so the insurance carrier may never find out that they are actually living permanently outside the US. I am contemplating retiring in the Philippines 3.5 years later if the country meets all my criteria. I will not take a chance and prefer to purchase a medical plan that will cover me in the Philippines because when I get older I will not be able to to travel 24+ hours to seek medical help back in the US. I will check out the different plans offered by Pacific Cross in the Philippines. There is a KZbin video with information from Pacific Cross. The person representing this carrier mentioned that some of their plans also have worldwide coverage and those insured under these plans can also seek medical care at the medical facilities in Makati, even if they live in other provinces. I currently also have cancer, hospital indemnity and accident insurance coverage but will double check if Mutual of Omaha and AFLAC will still continue to cover me should I move out of the country. Without a good and affordable medical plan from the country I wish to retire to, I will not want to retire out of the US. I will also project the premium cost when I am in my 80s and 90s because the cost of insurance will increase as I get older. I will find out if the insurance premium will go up yearly or every 5 years and by how much.
@vloggergrandpa27072 жыл бұрын
You still need to maintain a US residence. If you plan to permanently stay in the Philippines by permanently abandoning US residence, you can't use the Advantage Plan.

Advantage plans or Medicare Advantage plans replaces your straight Medicare part B plan. The advantage plans give you the Out of pocket limit that is not offered in your traditional straight Medicare part B plan. If using only the straight Medicare part B plan, you will have to perpetually pay the 20% co-insurance for services unless you have a supplemental insurance that will shoulder the 20% co-insurance after Medicare.

I thank you for the information, you have done a super job in your articulation. Any thoughts on the best way to on go on the following conditions: I am planning to live most of my retirement years in the Philippines, I am a fairly healthy person at age 69, I take medications for high blood pressure and cholestorol, I currently pay in to Social Security Part B and I also have VA medical coverage. Do you advise I cancel Medicare because I have been using my VA medical almost 100% of the time? 6 months ago I used Medicare for cataract surgery but other than that I will continue use VA medical for everything else. Thanks in advance, sir.
@vloggergrandpa27074 жыл бұрын
@No-where Man I'm not familiar with VA medical benefits. If it is free, keep it. If you don't plan to come back to the U.S., I suggest terminating your medicare. If you come back at least once a year, you can continue paying for part B and look for Advantage Plan that has zero premium and worldwide coverage. Under this plan, remember that you have to pay for medical services first then seek reiumbursement. With this plan, you just need to continue paying for part B. Keep another thing in mind, Medicare will not cover you outside the US unless you have Part C (Advantage Plan) with worldwide coverage...or you can always to go Guam (part of US) and use it there. Sorry about this lengthy explanation but this is not so simple. 🙂

Fyi recently about 10 weeks ago, a family got hospitalized here in Manila, she has medicare plan c with worldwide coverage n the big mistake i did was paid the hosp partial payment as i was prompted to do so. Now i have to file a claim for reimbursement myself in the US. The total bill is 6m i made partial payment of 2m, the hosp in Manila will not refund it bec it is not there policy to do so. We reported the hospitalization a bit late bec we didnt know that my family is covered. When we called (after 5 weeks) in the US,thats when we found out my family has coverage worldwide. From the time the US provider was notified, the hosp here in Manila did not ask for payment from us anymore. The medicare provider covered the 6m total bill, we didnt pay the remaining balance of 4m as the hosp will be paid by the medicare provider directly. If i know then what i know now, it has saved me the worry n trouble of borrowing money to pay cash to the hosp here. Hope this info will help.
@vloggergrandpa27074 жыл бұрын
@Maria Guinto I'm surprised about that misfortune. However, the Philippine Hospital must reimburse you that amount since they were overpaid. They have no right to keep the money that was paid "in error." Their bill is for 6M and they got paid 8M. Go to the higher authority at the hospital or report it to the government authority who regulates hospitals. ANOTHER POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVE: Medicare Advantage plans usually require you to pay the provider in advance, then file a claim with them. They really should have reimbursed you instead of sending the money to the hospital. Thus, you may also be able to claim that they reimburse you for the 2M you already paid and have them run after the hospital for the 2M you already paid. Those are my two suggestions. Let me know how you make out.
@mariaguinto14064 жыл бұрын
Vlogger Grandpa, USA No no the hosp total bill is 6m,by mistake i paid 2m in advance coz the hosp ask me to. That was the mistake, i shouldnt have paid in advance bec now i have to make the claim for the reimbursement myself. We are made to believe that we have to pay cash first then reimburse in the US later. I am just pointing out that no its not my case bec the hosp here in Manila can directly bill the medicare ins provider in the US. I didnt have to go through the trouble of paying cash here first should i have known my family was covered and that all we need to do is call the ins provider ryt away as soon as she got admitted. Also if you pay in advance here there policy is no refund but you can file a claim for reimbursement yourself in the US.
@vloggergrandpa27074 жыл бұрын
I will appreciate your sharing the name of the Hospital in Manila and the name of your Medicare Part C Insurance Company so I can remember that. Is it St. Lukes or Medical City? My understanding is that: (1) hospitals in Manila will not accept medicare reimbursement and that you have to pay them directly BEFORE you file your claim in the U.S.; and (2) Medicare Plan C Insurance Company will not pay the service provider but will reimburse you AFTER you pay the hospital yourself.
@mariaguinto14064 жыл бұрын
Vlogger Grandpa, USA St Lukes Global in BGC. Kaiser Permanente is the ins provider. The process was to call the ins provider then they have an international third party office that will call the hosp in manila to give a guaranty of payment.That easy. Upon discharge St Lukes called the ins provider to confirm if they will cover the total bill, it took a couple of hours for us to wait then after the ins provider confirmed that they will cover the total bill then we are done.
@vloggergrandpa27074 жыл бұрын
I just spent an hour talking to Kaiser Permanente. They said that you must generally call them within 24 hours of hospitalization, and they could arrange for direct payment to the Hospital in those situations where the patient does not have the money. They will attempt to reach the hospital and deal with them directly, and all you have to pay is the deductible amount. For small amounts, they will generally require you to pay first, then seek reimbursement. I can only think that maybe you neglected to tell Kaiser that you already paid 2m of the 6m. Could this be the problem?

@Lola Ko Lola Mo Letty Rosero Bruzo Carlson Advantage Plan could be less expensive by about $200 per month but you are expected to pay higher deductibles/copays. That is what you have to evaluate. Would you rater pay $200 per month or $2,400 per year, or pay the $275 co-pay per eye? So you have to evaluate if you are sickly or not. In some cases, the Supplemental Plan is better, but in many (if not most) cases the Advantage Plan is better.
