For 5 years prior to obtaining Medicare eligibility I was paying for health insurance under Affordable Health Care - now THAT was Expensive! In the year prior to Medicare eligibility (2019) I was paying a premium of nearly $800/month with a max out of pocket deductible of $8000/ year. So for me, even original Medicare is a huge savings. If your employer paid for/contributed toward your health insurance you will feel like it is expensive. With companies now laying off people on a regular basis and no job security (unless you are a politician) it is a nightmare of gigantic proportions to be laid off and losing your health insurance while coping with an illness. I feel very lucky that my illness did not occur when I was under the ACA!

We don’t want it privatized that’s for sure. Trump and Republicans plan on privatizing healthcare for veterans as well as Medicare. They plan to deregulate corporations, workplace, safety regulations, environmental protections, pharmaceutical safety standards and food safety standards. It’s all in the “project 2025” manifesto

I was born in '62 and have been on SSDI since 2008 for severe full body polyneuropathy, mixed fiber and was approved 1st go in 3 months. My wife was born in '65, immigrated in 2001 and has been running her own successful piano studio with annual salaries since then. Questions: 1)when can or should she apply for Medicare (I have been on straight medi for years) and is it the Nov to Jan 15th deadline or dependent on her birth month (jan) or some other range? 2)I heard she can work until she's 70, but what are her other options or age to sigh up for ss retirement benefits given her birth year? Is it only 65 or 67 or 70? Or can she sign up at 62 às well? 3)what happens to my SSDI and at what age? Does it change to retirement benefits at 65 or 67? (no one has ever answered my questions regarding what happens to SSDI recipients when the hit retirement ages) Thank you in advance for your assistance and your videos are helpful to the topic.

I work at hospital in Michigan. The union local put in the contract that all employees at 6 months of employment must pay into VEBA. No option to not pay into it. You can use VEBA only when you are retired on MEDICARE and had worked at least 10,800 hours. You will pay $68 a month when you start VEBA. It is a glorified Part D program and the drug co pays are reportedly not that cheap. There is a high turnover in the hospital. Many people don't stay at the least 10 years at the hospital required. I could go on, but suffice it to say I would have to stay there until I approximately am 70 years old to use it. (I am omitting details for brevity) I don't like it.

What I would love to see is a report card form of the most common 3 options as this guy took A($0) + B($175/m) + D($50/mo)=$225/month. This other guy took A($0) + C($75/mo) + D($50/mo)= $125/month. Or should G be in there? Did F go away?

@unclefester65016 ай бұрын
No, you just pay more for Medicare if you don't sign up for it at 65. If you have work health insurance you might be able to delay. It's complicated.

Don't know where you read this, but it's not true. You can start collecting Social Security at age 62, three years before you sign up and begin paying for Medicare Part B. I know some retirees who move away from th U.S. and decide not to ever sign up and pay for Part B and just take their Social Security payments. Medicare works only in the U.S., for the most part.

@@johnc2438 Thank you so much for your information! That makes sense to me!.
@alansach84375 ай бұрын
Yeah, that's not true. You get A automatically if you sign up for SS. The others are your choice, but if you don't sign up when first eligible you could end up paying penalties later when you do sign up. Also, if you decide later that you want a Suppliment you may have to undergo medical underwriting and pay a lot more. You could even be refused.

You will be treated like dirt when you do get sick or hurt and you get admitted as a charity case. You likely will not get anything near the care you would have. You could be sued for payment of your care and end up losing any property you may have, or funds you have in savings or investments.

The payouts Medicare gives to providers are so low compared to other insurance that many good providers don't want to work for the low Medicare payments. The program as a whole is incredibly expensive to administer.

People end up in the hospital....maybe you slip on ice or get in a car accident?? They go to the hospital for a short stay. They think, "I'm covered because I got Part A, hospitalization". Then what happens is the hospital doesn't actually ADMIT them! Not covered, even though they were in the hospital!! Would be covered under Part B! They get hit with ten of thousands in bills! Nearly everyone needs a doctor at some point. Nobody dies healthy!
