Footless Jo! CONGRATULATIONS on Getting Med Free!!! Unfortunately in my country, Australia ( which I Love ), the Government has decided that THIS is the Moment to redesignate my essential Painkillers from S4 to S8. I INSTANTLY go from being a Disabled Person to somebody suspected of being a JUNKIE & have to have another Physical Exam to PROVE that I am a Vaild Invalid. All a Little bit STRESSFUL.... One Has to Laugh. Coz what ELSE are you going to do? Again CONGRATULATIONS on your success! You are a VERY Bright Spark! love Steve Holliday

Congratulations, this is really a big accomplishment. I’ve had this conversation with my Doctor, she just rolls her eyes and changes the subject. Kind of makes me mad she does this. I wish I had someone to talk with about stopping some of my meds, but I guess not. This is a great accomplishment

Some doctors rely so much on the medication and prescriptions that they can't use their own brain and knowledge and have their patients best interests in mind. My old doctor was like that. left her and found a new one who actually cares about my health instead of constantly writing prescriptions.

These videos are bittersweet for me. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder at 19. Since then I've had to take immunosuppressants. If I stop, the pain comes back. It will be the case forever. I wish I could stop these meds because they make me feel bad, but I can't. But congrats on your journey :)

Amen! I love that you are so open about the medicine! I am off of everything but my asthma meds, it was a weird journey, to find that the Vicodin etc was making me feel worse! And feeling depressed! But it took me a little longer to go off of anti depressants, because it was helping me sleep, but now I don't take anything but asthma meds. Thank you for speaking so frankly!

Happy for you to be off the meds, Jo! At 62, when health-care providers are going over my records, it's hard to convince them I'm not taking anything. Last week, I had major surgery for the bone cancer that's slowly eating me alive, so I again have the orange (right color?) bottles lined up on my kitchen table. I don't like it, but the pain is severe so I'll take it!

Congrats, that is something I really want to do eventually. However, I know right now I am definitely not ready to do so. I really hate having so many meds to hold myself together, that is not me saying medications are bad. For me it is just something I don't want for myself, I am on so many medications and they are have some negative long term effects especially the combination of medications I am on. I just know right now this isn't the time for that.

Im so happy you managed to reach your goal of no meds! They're a great tool to get from A to B when we need them. I hope that one day I can go without antidepressants, but if I can't, that's okay too because I'd much rather be slightly more mentally stable than able to say that I don't take medication.

I've been on antidepressants for like maybe a year and third now and for me it has been a really helpful tool. There was so many times I would like two meltdowns a day of like a hour of being SO upset. And at school I would just try not to cry and still try to be perfect. Uh it was YIKES. But thanks for showing me that I may not have to be the rest of my life even though I probably won't ever want to try anytime soon, and I have a feeling that it will be long time if not ever because my family has just an array of mental health problems that are life long. Anyways congratulations on your achievement!

I personally don't like being on medication but that's just what I feel like when I'm on it and how it effects my body. But when I'm in pain or something I'll take it. I am permanently on the pill but if I don't I baislicly lose a who week every month since I literally can't do anything. I wish I didn't have to be on it but it's working and I do feel better because of it. Medicine is so useful and I'm really happy that it's available to me.

I so badly want to be off my medications entirely! I've been taking daily medications since I was about 10. I absolutely hate taking them. I never really seem to find ideal combinations of medications anyway. Even the ones that usually work do not always work, and some of them, I'm not taking for my health, but simply because of the anger others have when I can't comply with societal norms; my body needs 19 hours of sleep every day without medication for an unknown reason, but my parents don't want to work their tails off so that I can sleep the whole day away (which I understand, but I'm not lazy and it's not intentional.) I just hate that I have to be drugged up for an issue that other people have with my body and to be able to barely finance my basic needs even though it isn't a physiological danger to get extra sleep, just a social/financial functioning one.

The fact that you don't think coming off medication when you've had to take it for almost 2 decades is worth celebrating or getting emotional is so heartbreaking to me. It feels so ableist that you have been made to feel this way. I am so proud of how far you've come, celebrate it!

Anyone on narcotic pain meds for years will be dependent on them, as in they can't just drop them cold turkey without withdrawal. But, my counselor told me that does not make you an addict. She said that I'm labeled as a dependent and not an addict because addicts have addictive, drug seeking behavior and they abuse their meds. When I moved and couldn't find a new doc to prescribe the ultram that I'd been on for 7 years, my only resort (I thought) was to start going to the methadone clinic. Lord, I wish I'd known more about methadone and narcotic pain relievers in general, because I would've weaned myself from the ultram, instead of getting on the methadone. It's been 8 years since I started methadone. I got as high as 120mgs a day and now I'm at 47mgs a day because I'm doing a slow but steady taper. I'm tired of this noose around my neck. I also successfully weaned myself off of gabapentin/neurontin 18 months ago, and managed to do it with no withdrawal! I don't think there's anything wrong with responsibly taking pain meds or anything else that improves your quality of life.
