Whats up guys! My name is Kenji and I am currently a medical student at King's College London after graduating from the University of Birmingham with a Bachelor's degree in Medical Science (BMedSci). In this video, I show you how to deal with an angry patient in a medicine MMI interview.
If you enjoyed the video, please give it a like and a comment so I know to make some more! Also please show support by sharing it with a friend who's also interested in Medicine :)
Thank you so much!

Some things I'd mention, although video gets it spot on - great work Kenji as always: Introduction: 1. State your name and role 2. Ask patient name and DOB 3. Ask the patient how they would like you to address them 4. Ask for consent to ask a few questions and give a reason for wanting to talk 5. Emphasise anything they share with you will be confidential within medical team Some other point I found really useful: - Apologise for any mistake - Active listening - Empathise - Ask for any ideas, expectations and concerns the patient may have (the actor may give you clues here) - Offer potential solutions (ask Kenji did with food) - Thank the patient for their time at end of roleplay

Kenji what if things become more of a stressful scenario...probably the patient starts shouting or anything like that Is there a way someone can make them calm down in a polite way Really like the idea of this interview series
@DoctorKenji

Good question! You'd want to use de-escalation techniques. This mainly involves being as calm as possible, empathetic and listening to what the patient is saying and responding to it. Here's a good example www.bfwh.nhs.uk › 2016/02PDF Web results Conflict Resolution Training Manual - Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS ...
