Kissin plays as if the piano were part of his soul. Such vision and artistry. His tone, interpretation, technique. Too beautiful.

I think that Kissin is, by far, the best interpreter I have heard of this piece. I can see why people don't like it when others compare pianists, but hopefully it's fine to compare Kissin to Kissin. If you liked this one, I think his Tokyo performance (also on KZbin) is even more astonishing.

I've listened to many renditions of this difficult etude, and so far Kissin and Horowitz have come out on top for me.
Great performance of one of my favorite pieces of music and the sound quality is great too. But why is the beginning of this etude (just the first couple of seconds) missing? I will appreciate it if you could upload the entire performance again. Thank you!

It depends if he meant "learn" as in learn the notes (which is mind-blowing but just about believable) or "learn" as in be playing the piece to a decent standard (which is beyond my belief, even for Rachmaninoff).
@flyingpenandpaper61194 жыл бұрын
@Alexander Scriabin After a few days? Yes, certainly. But to learn it to a decent standard in an hour beggars belief.
@charlesbluett81953 жыл бұрын
@@flyingpenandpaper6119 Well I think the notes are believable as I have encountered similar feats. As for the interpretation it could have been that Rachmaninoff (being so close to and familiar with Scriabin) would have already played it "stylistically correct" inherently. Ragtime pieces are all essentially the same interpretively and differ only really in notes, making them easy to perform "well" after only learning the notes, so, if Rachmaninoff already knew Scriabin's style well enough (which I think he might have) the performance could have been pretty good.

How unfortunate that the video ended before the piece did. When Horowitz returned to his homeland to play his final recital there, he was filmed playing Scriabin's own piano in Scriabin's home. Sadly, he didn't play this immortal piece. What a missed opportunity for the Ages! Is there any work that is played as an encore more than this one?

At this technique level and height of internalizing, he needs to be composing also. I remember that when he was a child he met Van Cliburn and that was a huge deal for these two pianists. I wonder how much he's had to deal with the rise lately of anti-Semite superstitions and scapegoating. I know of some things that have happened to a couple of other Jewish pianists who have been directly targeted.
@garyblais86025 жыл бұрын
I am sorry to say that the pianist -who is world renowned may have missed the mark on this exceptional work by Scriabin. The left hand technique require a love hate relationship with the right , a dominance which is missing so the piece sounds lopsided. Possibly its just that the microphones where placed incorrectly .
