Dave gives Nikki some bad advice at 21:10. He tells her that she would get nothing from playing the King's Service card, but if she played that and then used her two from Gallantry, she would have made it to the 12 point space giving her 6 more points, which would have been better than the points she gained from the swordsman.

I think Dave was giving too much advice anyway. Let people play the way they want and make mistakes they want. When it came to final round moves I don't think Nikki managed to do anything by herself. Less alpha gaming would make things more interesting...

Exactly it always bothers me when someone did really poorly at a game and then they say they don’t like the game because it wasn’t fun because they had no chance.It’s easy not to trust their assessment, even though they genuinely might not like the game. Meanwhile, the other three were one point off of one another proving that it wasn’t the game. It was his play.

I agree with Aaron. They spent the whole game having to place markers delicately and readjusting the boards. He's not a game designer, so it's not up to him to come up with a better idea. It looked tedious to me.

I don't get it. Aaron must hate drafting games then. All of those games depend on what gets passed to you. This has replaced Sushi Go for me in the space of a quick drafting game. Love the theme/art/which tracks to decide to invest in. Great video as always!

Did they screw Nikki over at 21:05 ? She could have moved into the 12 point spot with the 2 extra moves from gallantry right?

i don't think that you can lap in the king's service board.you get to 12 then you stay there until reset or end of the game.if someone knows something different please correct me :)

I wonder how the game would play if you drafted with more cards, like say 8 cards and still keep 4.

Aaron whines (and even cries?) about his score the entire time, then says he had no fun during the game. I'd say it's less about the game play than him just not knowing how to play (and being a poor sport. i.e. If he didn't like the game, then he wouldn't care so much about losing...). Some advice Aaron: the order of the cards you play is important and you need to think about what you are passing other players when choosing cards. It's not bad luck that hurt you as much as just poor play. You have to go with the options you are dealt. Dave is right (49:00-51:12).

+Matthew White he (Aaron) seemed in a bad mood from the start - I agree the game seemed fiddly in terms of size of components but the biggest flaw I think is that it *seemed* to take forever despite it being a quick game - this is typical of modern games where I suspect they came up with the basic idea and added and added...but they should have streamlined...the passing the excess cards at the start 3 or 4 times seems clumsy as f--k --- I would house rule a variant like poker where you can just swap all but 1 card with the deck or something...speed it up further simplify yet not really lose anything I think - If you keep the passing just make it quicker say select 3 cards you pass on...
@samiamagaimagain9 жыл бұрын
I actually think it's fairly simple. The drafting is a core element of the game and very balanced. You take a card and pass. It's fast, simple and rather strategic. When you play cards, you play then move. It's hardly fiddly. Ever played Caverna? The order you play the cards is important because if you are under someone's piece you are behind them and it happens often. My one complaint is that they should not have differentiated the point chips. They should just be in basic denominations and the same chips for all tracks.
@keithparker13469 жыл бұрын
Matthew White the size of the components rather than the mechanics/rules of the game I still think the game is far more complicated than it actually should be as if makers are scared of NON-gamers actually having a chance of liking it I am surprised they never mentioned that its basically an abstract game with a wizard/knight theme slapped on it - at no point in the game do you get any feeling of any theme

All players of all experience levels (notice we don't use the disrespectful term "non-gamer"), that we have played with, have enjoyed this game. I have yet to win, but, have had fun just the same. The last game I played I purposely stayed away from the Kings Service while 2 other players reached the 12 points spot. I focused on and got the max points for the Quest track. I did not win but was not in last. It seems to me that you should at least get 6 points from Kings Service if you want to have a chance to win. I am not a gamer of great experience (I've always been dead last in any Feld game I've played) so those more experienced might have more insightful comments than these.
