This presentation is a bit of an oversimplification of medieval manor life. I recommend students to seek out other sources in addition . Its tru that plowing was the hardest chore, but the work was shared. Similarly with the harvesting, the whole village came together to do it and they were probably singing field songs, and there were colorful festivals to commemorate the different stages of the growing year. There were dozens of crafts that existed from wheel writes to bakers and weavers, etc. There was a-lot of physical work but it was varied and only a portion was done for the manor, most of the time was devoted to maintaining their own small homestead. The worst time would be a famine, of course. But this video makes life in medieval time seem so grim, lol, its too simple a view to get any meaningful view of manorial life. I recommend reading life in a medieval village by Francis gees fo a good overview.

An interesting study was done within the past 2 decades that clearly showed that the life of the peasant was roughly equal to a lower middle to middle class household of today. Far from being held down in poverty, as is often portrayed, the peasant's home and small farming plot was provided at no cost - think how much you spend on your mortgage for your home today. Health care, rudimentary as it was, and education were more-often-than-not paid for by the lord for, as a business man, he knew that happy & healthy peasants made for a better, more productive workforce. As the peasants quality of life rose, so did the lords - it was a workable construct. What we hear about today, for the most part, are the exceptions to that 'normal' way of life because it was those exceptions that were noteworthy (recorded), not the normal ones.

Jabberdau I wish I could find it again but I haven't been able to. I first heard about it in a documentary on medieval life and was quite impressed with the researcher and the quality of the research. I do know it was written by a British researcher and the paper and was published between 1998 and 2005 but I do not recall in what journal it appeared.
