The Greeks did not believe the earth was flat. There were several philosophers who theorized the earth was round. One argued this based on lunar eclipses and the circular shadows which indicates a sphere rather than a disk. One of them even produced a rough estimate of the earth's size by measuring the angle of the sun at midday in two wells, one in Greece and the other in Alexandria. Another one used the lunar eclipses to measure the size of the earth and moon. And they also reasoned that if the earth were flat, you would be able to see an entire ship as it approached the shore, but for a round earth you can only see the top as it is obscured by the curvature of the earth

Being non-religious myself, I find it so interesting to research and learn about the slow changes and different interpretations of various religious texts over time (and among different groups of people). It’s just so intriguing to me how dramatically different Holy books can be interpreted. Especially looking at the Middle Ages and how Christians lived then compared to now….I find it truly interesting. (I don’t mean this in any offensive way, to be clear. I respect all religions, regardless of if I believe in them myself. Religion has always been an interesting topic for me, since I was young.)

I find the part about witch hunts really interesting. They went from saying it contradicted the bible, the thing they basically entrusted the way they lived to completely, to believe witches could not harm you, to executing innocent people because they may be witches and that suddenly scared them? Also, the mission the children set out on may have been doomed from the start but I must admit, I've never met a child that determined to do anything.

6:00 Red flagged. James 1 made witch hunting common, he wrote a book on it. Plus there were witch hunters for hire who abused the system started by James's book. Pinning the blame on Elizabeth smacks of propaganda since James1 book and witch hunting is so well known.

During the early and high middle ages dragons were actually considered to be an extinct species that once existed, hence why dragons are such a classic trope in film and tv featuring the medieval period
