In order to remember that NNRTI have VIR in the middle of the name if your remove the 3 letters N- NRT - I from the middle it balances out and you replace with VIR. But NRTI you can't remove 3 letters from the middle. Hope that helps people remember that the NNRTI has the VIR in the middle of the name :)

cd4 receptors bind to gp 120 ...from the cell.....further combination with a coreceptor ccr5 chemokine coreceptors help in the process of fusion........so ccr5 is a fusion receptor.......so maraviroc is a fusion inhibitor.......thank you

On the actual USMLE exam, such drug as Maraviroc will be listed as CCR5 inhibitor, and the explanation of its action will be - Inhibits HIV entry by !!! HIV gp120allosteric interaction with CCR5 (tropism testing required). So, we need to differentiate when they asking about fusion inhibition or about gp120 allosteric interaction. They are very tuned at teeny-tiny details, thats why it makes this exam so difficult.

Maraviroc is not a fusion inhibitor but rather an entry inhibitor. Under that circumstance your first mnemonic becomes incorrect misleading the students. Please check your facts before presenting.
