Meditation: Being Is the Common Factor in Whatever Exists

Everything borrows its existence from a single reality, being. Everything seems to be finite, discrete, yet it is an appearance of an indivisible whole.
In this meditation we see that everything and everyone borrows its independent existence from the single reality of being. Being is the common factor in whatever exists. All things seem to be finite and discrete, yet all are appearances of a single, indivisible whole, just as all images in a movie are appearances on the single screen. The experience of happiness is the shining of this one reality through the multiplicity and diversity of forms. We find that it is not that experience veils reality but rather that the belief in separation appears to do so. We are free to allow appearances to veil reality, or to understand that they shine with it, by asking our self, 'Am I going to see ten thousand things or one indivisible reality?'

My only question regarding this is: Who or what is actually experiencing the “happiness on the inside and love on the outside”?? Inside and outside of what exactly? Rupert himself and along with with other non-duality teacher emphatically say “there is no separate self….there is nobody there”. There is also no inside or outside (duality). Is Rupert making a concession here with words and terminology?

I think so too. He made other concessions too. Now for Rupert, not being a separate self doesn't mean we don't have a persona in this dimension. To clarify this understanding, check out the John Smith / King Lear analogy. What matters is on whose behalf on is thinking, acting, relating,...

@@keithoyoung34 I mean this is what happens when psychological states are used to make statements about physics. It never ends well. The history of Buddhism for example is a testament to this kind of debacle. Spira's whole rap is lifted almost entirely from Mahayana Buddhism.

@@dscott_ "physics and psychology can’t explain the essential self." I agree that physics cannot explain the essential self, but psychology attempts to do so. The word 'psyche' means the soul or essence of a person's true identity. However, psychology has no business blundering into the realm of physics. Buddhism has been proving for centuries that even the most enlightened beings dont have a clue about physics. They couldn't even make matches!

@@dscott_ Psychology is about the 'psyche' and as you already understand, it stands prior to thinking. Nevertheless, thinking is something 'of' the psyche. In the same way that my arm is something 'of' my body. Buddha stated that the psyche (atta) could not be found...he would only call it the 'unconditioned'. That's pretty vague...and has led to endless eons of confusion about what he really meant.
