How do you reconcile the fact that he and others claim we are not our 'transient feelings', yet supposedly after death we are immersed in 'feelings' 100x more intense than when embodied. Seems to me they need to get their stories straight.

Robert Roberts And what exactly is the silence?
@Jamesgarethmorgan9 жыл бұрын
nadjim73 The silence is when you stop thinking. Well thats 'pure' silence. Which is just another word for awareness. There is a gap between thoughts - a gap when you're still aware - but not aware OF anything.
@nacho749 жыл бұрын
James Morgan Well, yes, this leads to the direction to absolute "nothingness". So, basicly, this means one is aware of awareness. But thinking is not only in terms of thinking with words. Processing perceived information or neuronal signals in some sort can also be understood as thinking. Awareness means being aware and being aware of something. One can't think perceived information away. Even if one tries, one will subconsciously get the perceived surrounding. Even through meditation or other methods, one still has a sensation and an emotional feeling. The awareness without being aware of something or of itself doesn't exist. This is what awareness is and what awareness means. It is aware of this and this, being conscious

If you believe yourself to be the thinker of thoughts then investigate yourself and find out where this 'thinker' of thoughts originates from. Once you investigate this you'll eventually find out that this 'thinker of thoughts' is just another thought story to validate the previous thought story. Based on this investigation you realize that there is no 'you' located anywhere specifically. 'Location' is just a thought/sound humans made up. Where in space are we located if there isn't a ceiling to relate it to? Which way is north in outer space? See how ridiculous human terns are once we think outside our comfort bubble? You are self aware ongoing experiencing... (a verb, not a noun). You are 'THIS'!

We are Spirit.. And Body. And thoughts are Not Who we Are..Thoughts COME to us from Nether Regions. The Spirt is Who we Are and it Speaks to us Through our body..our Mind. We need to Learn to differentiate between the thoughts that come to us and the thoughts that come from Spirit. Our bodies grow old and Die..But the Spirit Lives on..The Spirit is Eternal. Correct me if I am wrong. That which knows my thoughts is also a thought that looks back at those thoughts. I only know my thoughts after I have them, which is another thought. Therefore the thought I, can never be consciousness itself, knowing itself has no name or thought of I, in fact knowing does not know thought without becoming thought. The knowing of a thought like I, is becoming a thought I. The two, knowing and thought are never separated, except when there is no thought, but then there is no I either, and it would be a misunderstanding calling it - I consciousness -

I AM that which is aware. My question is why i don't remember of been aware before i was born? because if awareness or consciousness is always there, why i don't remember where i was before i was born?. My conclusion about what i just asked is that the reason why i don't remember is because I was in a state where duality did not exist, I was all knowing, perhaps i did not have any questions or anything 'i was just being Myself with the ONE True SOURCE of ALL. Questions and thoughts arise the moment that my consciousness disconnected from the True Reality, SOURCE. The problem is how did i get distracted or disconnected from my true Self, SOURCE? Perhaps 'FEAR?' "WAVES?" Vibration? Who know...
@Jamesgarethmorgan9 жыл бұрын
LYNN LOVE Those are all thoughts Lynn. Everything you wrote there is just a thought. What is aware of those thoughts? Simply keep coming back to that which is aware (which you can't control anyway!). Who cares about what was going on before you were so-called born? That's just another thought. You are aware now yes? So. Sit with that for a moment. Then go have a cup of tea or a beer or watch TV. And when you're doing those things - you may start to be aware..... that even as you're doing those things - you're still aware..... even as you're wondering if you were aware before you were born...... you're still aware..... now.
@joselinema9 жыл бұрын
James Morgan thanks. You are correct. I am aware in the now. It is the most important thing.
@Jamesgarethmorgan9 жыл бұрын
LYNN LOVE I'm not so sure I would use the word 'important' - because you still have to pay the rent (which is debatably more important.......) - but I think its safe to say awareness is the most consistent thing in life - its the one thing that does not change in your life - and you could also say its the one thing you can be absolutely sure about - you can be 100% confident about - whereas everything else changes and everything else you can doubt. But you can't doubt that you're aware can you? No. Indeed.
@FatalExistence8 жыл бұрын
+James Morgan i wasn't aware of that.
@TheYanbibiya7 жыл бұрын
Lynn Love ; we simply don't know. One claim access to former lives and states . Some of these are people with no spiritual practice and many are devoted Buddhists and Non dualist 's from various traditions. I wouldn't ignore their experience as evidence but even so remembering previous experience is still mind following the philosophy that thoughts are part of the I and thus dual. There is a state claimed by some and inferred in some esoteric writings that is beyond the witness position . If one thinks of being aware and then aware of awareness and then a non aware state yet remaining , what does one experience ? The state of bliss , outshining , indivisible knowing etc would here claim to be beyond a witness position . This prior state claims to be able to manipulate eternal destiny and choice in the ultimate realms while remaining aware of the ALL and I mutually. I suppose when a Buddhist for example claims a reincarnation or Tantric traditions claim Bardo consciousness and complete control over their next manifestation. The stories and symbols of lands beyond lands filled with all the goodness one can imagine suggest these states. Now in the physical body there are those who claim these experiences but they are presented as attainment on physical death to those who have achieved certain realisations . The Guru yoga tradition of course uses the devotion to the Guru to attain such states both here in the body and at physical death. So we are actually left with many questions and answers that come from very respected sources that Rupert has drawn from that need much more attention than appeals to non duality as simply a state of no though or noticing or a type of tranquil happiness. Lots of the teachers around don't ever include talk of other states and bodies and dimensions. Is this because they have not experienced them? Is it because they aren't part of the western tradition ? Is it because they aren't real but mere fantasy of the mind or symbolism produced to explain or control ?

I see that when I experience anything for the matter, the moment I see myself there experiencing it, I’m in the past and no longer experiencing from the now. Reality is always in the now and no other time exists, what has past is gone, the future will come, so my question is, how can I ever have total experience and be completely aware of my perception if there is I who is the experiencer is seperate from what I am experiencing? The I which most of us know as me, myself and I right, if there is I then the awareness has identified itself as important so correct to say that I am the centre of what I am experiencing. And so having awareness of this experience from a centre which is I, there is partial attention to the total awareness of my experience, I as the experiencer is aware, but separated from the experience of reality, in that separation I have created space and time for which I now have thought of that experience. The moment that I have thought of my experience it is now moved into the past. Absolute awareness is awareness of the whole, partial awareness will cause conflict with the self, inattention will breed misperception and therefore we move further away from the unknown, where truth, love, exists holistically from our being.

I can't make the shift. To know is to know something. how can nothing know nothing. Feels like i need to vanish into unconscious . Awareness can't/will not stop being aware of something. Wishing for extinction doesn't work. How to stop doing is extremely difficult,as conditioning just keeps coming back.again & again. Am getting a headache.

Aware of awareness. Am-ness. Maybe it is both nothing and something, and neither. Because undefineable, simply experienced As Rupert said "irreducible" knowing. Is-ness. Prior to apprehending I ? Prior to naming I Am ? Lastly, Rupert suggests asking "Am I aware?" Stay in the pause.
@durwhat3 жыл бұрын
I know exactly what you mean. awareness of awareness is dualistic, requires another awareness outside awreness. Seeking is timebound for a future result, which is timeless and cant be done. Apparently we are already that and now i negate everything as not I. Be nothing implies no effort. Krishnamurti says choiceless awareness. When practiced i either fall asleep or get sucked back into monkey mind. Terrence Stephens has great pointers and keeps it simple
