Similar to Bhupali, Shivranjani also uses only 5 notes except where Bhupali uses Shuddh Gandhar, Shivranjani uses Komal Gandhar.
Film music doesn't follow all the rules. As per their convenience, demand of song's situation or just to enhance the beauty of the song, music directors would bend the rules of Raag while creating film songs.
Example : The signature interlude tune in the song "Jane kaha gaye wo din", Komal Nishad is used, whereas in Raag Shivranjani, Komal Nishad along with Madhyam are 'varjit' (prohibited) swars.
You can also use aroh avroh of any song to create aalap for any song or tune.
For example, to play the theme tune of Hero movie, which is also based on Raag Shivranjani, create an Aalap from the Swars of Raag Shivranjani, like:
