I love the line: "This plane is old enough to not have the computers that stop you doing stupid things."
@tissuepaper99622 жыл бұрын
It is actually quite important that the plane be the correct age, otherwise it would need to be modified. Once the plane is modified they would need to either have it marked "EXPERIMENTAL" or apply for a whole new type certification for the modified plane. Neither of those options is particularly good. If the plane is "EXPERIMENTAL", then you can't perform any paid service with it whatsoever (not even for ESA), you can't fly IFR, you can't fly over populated areas, and you have to notify every single passenger every single time you fly that the plane has an experimental certificate. It's a hassle. Applying for a new type would solve these problems, but aviation administrators (understandably!) move at a glacial pace when certifying new types, so it would take way longer than just finding an older plane in good condition. This is all assuming that it works roughly the same in France as in the US, which is not a bad bet, but there may be some subtle differences.

@@tissuepaper9962 That’s not exactly true. Just about every kit aircraft has an experimental cert and they can fly over populated areas just fine. There are very few situations where none of those exceptions apply.

When the plane goes down, it has to go down at the same speed as the people inside are falling without air resistance. I never realized that during the zero-g sections, the plane is actually pointing down. All the cameras are always held in the same orientation as in level flight. But I guess in free fall, there really is no sense of up or down. They probably covered up all the windows to avoid make things even more disorienting and distracting.

On a different note, closer to your field, does a heart experience strain during the changeover from zero G to hyper G - as in your own heart/Philips experiment (is there a back pressure thump, or is the inlet chamber suddenly gulping too much blood - is that a good thing - could it be used as a prescription for narrowing of ventricles (here you go: 3 vomit comets twice a week), etc)?
