How To Be A Competitive Medical School Applicant

Last year I averaged a 1.9 gpa w/ only ge classes (freshman). Now I have an average of 3.2 gpa and increasing 🚀(2nd year today). Currently studying my past courses of chem and bio to prep for MCAT. My past really hurt me, but I’m going for the moon.

What about people of Middle Eastern and North African descent? Typically we put ourselves under "other," but should I consider the "other" group to be a good representation even though its such a broad category?

What about people who are mixed? I'm white, black, and hispanic, so I check all 3 boxes. Would I be lumped into the white category (statistically less likely to be admitted) or the black or hispanic categories, where my chances will increase?

Good question! The AAMC data doesn't differentiate mixed race, however, the general consensus is that if you are representing an URM community, you'll be considered in that bunch.

The math doesn’t add up on the last part. 2112-1213-220=679 applicants that are not Asian or African. 1798-630-202=966 matriculants that are not Asian or African. How are there 966 matriculants and 679 applicants?
