To all who are contemplating using an insulin pump, I have been using a Medtronic insulin pump for 21 years. It has made my life so much easier! I have been a Type 1 diabetic for 56 years. My husband and I have traveled overseas for vacation and across the U.S. It is so much easier than having to take two or more insulin shots a day.

Insulin is always stored in 2°-8° temperature and how can the insulin pump manage the temperature for insulin?
@MedtronicDiabetesUS
@MedtronicDiabetesUS 3 жыл бұрын
Insulin solutions freeze near 32 °F (0 °C) and degrade at high temperatures. If you are outside in cold weather, wear your pump close to your body and cover it with warm clothing. If you are in a warm environment, take measures to keep your pump and insulin cool.

Hi, Lyn. You can use an insulin pump for your basal insulin and settings are determined by your healthcare provider. With CGM, you have access to our SmartGuard technology, like SmartGuard Auto Mode. Auto Mode adjusts your basal insulin every 5 minutes based on your sensor readings. If you'd like to learn more, give our therapy specialists a call at 800.646.4633 option #3.

We just got one of these for our son and it doesn't make a huge difference, except one doesn't have to inject multiple times and lower waiting times. In my opinion, it takes more afford to observe, so it has it's pros and cons. Not advisable for those who are totally new in the Diabetes game I guess, I think some experience is required to handle these things properly.

Our 7 year old son was just diagnosed with type 1 a couple days ago. Do you have any recommendations?
@hamoudi_d
@hamoudi_d 3 жыл бұрын
@@cfrahmy8008 Yes, I thing above all it's very important to get as much information as you can get about Diabetes and how to deal with it. Due to the sad circumstance that your child was diagnosed at such a young age, it's also very important to let him or her know what's wrong with him or her, so it can develope an understanding of how important it is to not exceed the borders in regards to the dietary limitations that comes along with this disease, as well as the importance of strict discipline of measuring it's blood sugar and eating at certain times of the day. If you have a good doctor, they will initially go with injections rather then a insulin pump, because - as I said - in my personal opinion the last needs a certain level of experience with the disease and how to handle it, as well as more effort. Having the needle that's affixed to the body getting blocked or bended is not unusual, so one has to take a good eye on that, as well as not to overshoot either with insulin or food, which is a bad thing in either case. As a parent you'll have to get to understanding, that there is no way out at the moment, there is absolutely no way of healing. As a parent, that for me really was the hardest part to stomach. I had to learn how to control my emotion as well, try to get rid of pity for your child and self-pity, it's not your fault. If you have any further questions, please get it contact with me any time, also via WhatsApp if needed.
@cfrahmy8008

That was a great bit of information. You're absolutely right though. This has been hands down the most difficult thing to handle in my life. Knowing my little boy won't be able to have normal food and be injected constantly. But I appreciate your kind words. We're on day 6 now and it's gotten easier. He's really surprised me. He takes the shots throughout the day no problem at all and he understands he can't eat how he used to. The shot at night however the 10 units gets him. He cries and says it burns. And I just feel bad. Bad as hell. I hate having to poke him 10 different times a day. We are just going to work though it. Luckily we've got my wife so we aren't alone. But really, thank you for your wisdom. We're going to eventually look into the pumps though. I really like the fact that he wouldnt be getting poked so much.
@hamoudi_d
@hamoudi_d 3 жыл бұрын
@@cfrahmy8008 Well hopefully if he's getting a pump, then he'll be able to eat and drink almost like a "normal" person, which probably is one of the great advantages of these devices. And you are right, you have an affixed needle which is very thin and may remains in the body for two days. Combined with a sensor in his arm, with which you can measure the sugar (it's actually not the blood sugar, but the sugar in the tissue which is delayed by approx. 10 minutes) makes it very much easier, especially for small children. One thing you need no know is that the blood suger raises and falls depending in which combination it is ingested. For example, dextrose is called "fast sugar" because it will increase the blood sugar almost immediatly. Likewise juice or coke. Potatoes, Noodles or Rice contain starch which has to be converted first abd takes longer. Every meal therefore has to me a combination of both. Also fats are slowing down the absortion of sugar. So if you have the pump, he can eat everything, but in the right quantities and combinations.
