Hi Di. The shells were Fiona's medium of art that were applied after it left our studio, just a different interpretation of an art finish I guess. Thanks for watching :)

This was a pretty cool collaboration. The shells on the body are cool but the snakes lost their pop with dark shells in her dark hair. That would have been a good opportunity to incorporate different shell color patterns. Just mho. Even being it's a beautiful piece.

So amazing to watch the process. I am becoming interested in foam sculpture. I am using eps now, that pink stuff. Is there an advantage to using polystyrene? what you typically use?
@denisestover24164 жыл бұрын
It looked much better without all of the shells. Being as a snake is smooth, as smooth as scales can be, the addition of the shells made her look closer to Ariel the Mermaid than Medusa the Gorgon. The face was great! The whole sculpture was beautifully done. I just can't get passed those shells! Thanks for sharing. I love you guys work! God Bless!

Amazing! What type of clay die you use for the face since oven burning with regular clay would melt everything else down
@AdenHynesSculptureStudios9 жыл бұрын
SuperJayda1983 Its just regular clay. We didn't need to harden or fire the clay in an oven at all. We simply took a silicone mould of the clay once we'd finished carving the face, and created a fibreglass cast from the mould. Then the clay went back in the bag

It seems to me that if you used Styrospray 1000, it would save a lot of time and expense compared to skinning it with sticky back aluminum. Or is it that you can't fiberglass over Styrospray 1000 ? Just saying.

Sometimes Medusa is ugly. Sometimes she's beautiful, like in the latest clash of the titans film remake. The client wanted her to look beautiful, so we made her beautiful

Fantastic but I do think credit needs to be given to Ray Harryhausen for creating the snaked bodied Medusa. In mythology, only her hair was snakes. I believe he came up with her body being that of a snake's.

I don't like the final finish with those seashells all over her body and the colour is all wrong; also she has been given a friendly look. In my opinion, Medusa should have green, glistening scaley skin, coupled with a fierce, strong look of deadly beauty!
