There was another version I read when I was younger where yes Medusa was still raped by Posideon but Athena actually made her a gorgon to protect her and give her power rather then punishing her for something out of her control. I like this version more because it would make sense that the goddess of wisdom gives power instead of punishment over something like this.

Medusa’s story is one of favorite myths :) edit: after she was cursed into turning into a gorgon she ran away and accidentally turned the person she loves into stone, she lived with the guilt until Athena (who was her idol before she was cursed) sent Perseus to kill her. Then Athena wore her head on her shield (as seen on the Athena statue in the Parthenon museum.

When I was younger Ioved Medusa so much I use to draw her everyday because I thought she was a beautiful lady even though she turned people into stone I still absolutely loved her
