Nadal experienced the same when he was coming up against Federer: he was accused of taking steroids and was booed both in Roland Garros and Wimbledon against Roger, who was absolutely beloved. The difference is that he just kept to himself and did not let that affect him. He never blamed the crowds. And crowds love him now. I feel for Medvedev, I do. But he continues to antagonise them on and off the court; it is a mutually antagonic relationship, not one-sided. He calls them 'empty-brained', 'people with low IQ', "people with no life". @@JustMeleo I beg to differ. In most cases where crowd was awful was when Novak had no interaction with them and expressed no emotions. And we all know the reason. It’s because of the frustration built over the years by Nadal and Federer fans, to a point that sportsmanship and appreciation of the game was off the table. Shiny examples are 2011 NY semi VS Federer, 2019 Wimbledon final VS Federer, but could mention 100s more. What the crowd did not understand is that he fed off their anger and has won most of these 1 VS 20000 people matches. Most of these matches are now fully on KZbin for the world to see and I’m happy that at least people in the comments recognize the lack of manners or IQ of the crowd as Daniil put it, but also shear mental strength of Novak.

Unpopular opinion: the expectation of silence in between points is outdated, and should be scrapped. Tennis players preparing a serve should be able to do it to loud crowd noise, they are seasoned professionals. A pitcher in baseball can pitch to a loud crowd. So can a footballer/soccer player or hockey player taking a penalty. Or a rugby player converting. Crowd noise in between points would be a greater test of concentration, it would be interesting to see which tennis players can handle it better and which ones can't handle it. Also if crowd noise in between points becomes the norm, it would also get rid of all these 'controversies' around crowd noise in between points.
