Medway to the River Orwell Ep.21

We set sail at dawn from Queenborough on the stunning Swale to head 50 miles up the east coast to Suffolk Yacht Harbour on the picturesque River Orwell. One of the most beautiful rivers to sail.
A lovely meal in Levington was followed the next day by a superb sail back home to Gillingham Marina on the River Medway. Thank you to Mark, Jay & Ian for joining me as affable beer swigging pirates on this adventure.

Well done for getting your mates up to the Orwell and back. I have trouble sailing with my mates who are far more interested in food and beer! They get a bit bored and and distracted when on passage which is not great when sailing in the Medway or the East Coast with shallow water never far away! Well done for looking pretty chilled :)

Thanks Dean! What the video doesn't show is that they were all up playing poker and hard drinking till around 1am the night before. It was a shock to the system when I had them up at 5am to catch the tide! To be fair they are pretty good navigators, can always find the pub! :)

@ 9:10 sounds like you'd prefer a motorboat; you can burn even more fuel then. Mainsail "spinning you around"? Surely the autohelm will handle that?

You won't do that trip any faster than that (normally!!) in anything save a motorboat!! It's a trip I do most years (Mersea or Shotley to Chatham and back) Now......lets get that Nonsuch out again!! 🙂
