Meer Winden
Lake Winds
By Bob Phillips
Item: 00-46711
Series: Highland/Etling String Orchestra
Category: String Orchestra
Format: Conductor Score & Parts
Level: 3
Reflecting the energy and drive of the furious winds of November on Lake Michigan, this original work will resonate with anyone ever caught in a storm. The strong Dutch heritage of West Michigan bestows the name Meer Winden, "lake winds" in Dutch, and provides a story to the technical and musical elements of the piece. All sections play the melody and the driving accompaniments. Violins and violas use third position; violas and cellos use fourth position. "Meer Winden," by Bob Phillips, provides ample opportunity for working on tone within the ensemble.

I was cite reading this in my school. I love the measure where the cello goes to 4th position, and makes this beautiful tone!

I do. I’m just a cellist myself and don’t really see a point of adding violas into my sentence.

how did he get away with 7th position in a grade 3 for those of you who don't know, the recommended upper limit to shifting in grade three is 5th, which even then is uncommon

That’s just awful! This piece is so awesome as well. I had a solo for one of our pieces this concert along with movie themes. All of our performances and time with people and normal life was taken away from us all because of a stupid bat.

That's how I feel in my orchestra class, barely anyone else is interested in it, and only a few of us can actually play the songs we do.

It just depends on if you’ve got the drive, most people aren’t willing to practice. If you do, and are willing I’d recommend extra curricular orchestra training. It’s worth it
