First encounter with RMP: I passed out from Infantry depot Lichfield in 1979. Waiting to join my battalion in Derry for my first Banner tour, I was stuck on rear party until I turned 18 (you couldn’t go to Northern Ireland until you were 18). One night I was drinking in the NAAFI with a pleasant older lad, I’ll call him Bill. We shared a beer and as a sprog it was really cool to chat with an experienced soldier. I can’t remember why Bill was not on tour with the battalion. He said goodnight, strolled over from the NAAFI to B Coy lines (my Company). Very few soldiers there obviously, just rear party blokes. Bill, who wasn’t obviously drunk, grabbed a pick-helf (pickaxe handle), entered a lad’s room. The lad was fast asleep and on his own. I didn’t know him but think he was an assault pioneer temporarily accommodated in B Coy lines. Bill smashed his skull in whilst he slept. He died almost instantly. Then Bill set off looking for more victims Oblivious to this (I must have left the NAAFI 30mins later), I entered B Coy lines by the same entrance, noticed RMPs in the corridor with the strip-Lights on. The guard had been despatched to check all Coy lines. The bedroom door was open and I saw congealed blood and brain stuck to the polystyrene ceiling. I had no idea what was going on. Another badly injured sleeping soldier was found but survived. When it became clear who the murderer was I told the RMP that I was a witness. Without even taking a statement the investigation team waited until I was in Derry before calling me back for an aggressive interview. In that time we lost a bloke in Derry during a dreadful incident in which an innocent civvy was killed. It gave a me an entrenched dislike for RMP. The RMP had its work to do but often doesn’t endear itself to soldiers in combat situations. I’m sure they’re far more professional today. PS. This happened in BAOR.

I highly recommend a series of autobiographical books written by ex civpol and ex rmp cop Wally Payne. First book is called A Monkey's Tale. Having fallen foul of the chief con in a provincial police force in the 1960s, he then joined RMP where he went from one dodge to another, ending up as an LE officer. Very funny read.

I was a police officer with the BTP, I wanted to join the TA RMP but they wouldn’t let me. I tried twice, once in the 1980s and once in the 1990s. The BTP were very hostile towards us joining the TA which I feel was a pity..

@mjspice100
@mjspice100 2 жыл бұрын
@@corporate_marshmallow I guess you wrote this for a reaction, normally I wouldn’t bother but I’ll make an exception just for you.. Thank you, random stranger, for your devaluation of a 32 year career, your devaluation of a police force whose history predates the MPS and finally for your devaluation of the Army Reserve and its members.. WOW! Of course I know nothing about you but your one short sentence has given me a shrewd idea of what type of person you are, but before I go into that, I must admit your short sentence did give me a chance to reflect on my career as a “fake cop”. What did I do? What did I achieve? I’m retired now and have been for the last 6 years, during my service I served in a variety of roles, mostly on the front line dealing with a whole host of incidents ranging from minor byelaw offences, public order, theft, robbery, fraud, assaults (from common assault through to GBH) and even managed a couple of stints on murder investigation teams. Then there were the suicides, walking along railway line picking up dismembered pieces of human remains, there were the rail disasters, I never have forgotten the Ladbroke Grove train crash and hearing mobile phones ringing inside the wrecked carriages, relatives, husbands, wives trying to contact their missing partners. This of course is just a short overview of what I did in my career, it didn’t feel fake to me but then what do I know compared with your obvious depth of knowledge? Still as you say, fake cop… Let’s go into what my perception of you is.. You’re a baiter. Of course as a BTP officer (fake cop if you insist) I got used to being baited from time to time, it went with the territory. I met some good baiters, bad baiters, some excellent baiters. You, however stand out the most.. You’re a master-baiter..

Written about the US Army Military Police. Supporting The Three "I am the Infantry, follow me Not a foot soldier, we're much more you see We'll take the fight to the enemy I am the Infantry, first of THE THREE." "I am the Cavalry, follow me A modern day horse soldier in an APC Charging straight forward to the enemy I am the Cav, most daring of THE THREE." "I am the Armor, follow me The arm of decision I'll always be When the going gets rough, call on me I am Armor, the best of THE THREE." "Armor, Cav and Infantry Rush headlong into the melee Breaking the lines like an angry sea Deep into enemy territory." "Approaching a crossroads, what do we see The area secured by two lonely MPs Directing us forward, how can this be How long has he been here waiting for me?" "What a crazy person an MP must be He has no firepower or armor like me And I thought everyone followed THE THREE." "Armor, Cav and Infantry I am the MP, don't follow me You don't want to be where I will be Guarding a crossroad, waiting for THE THREE Just my partner, a sixteen, a sixty and me." "With the objective taken, wait and see No one will remember the lonely MP Who held this ground so they could run free But that's my job, supporting THE THREE!"

Military police around the world perform various tasks, and none of are for killing the enemy during open combat. Not a comprehensive list but here’s some of the tasks. Guard POW’s. Find, apprehend and return deserters. Protect key crossroads or other strategic places. Protect facilities in vulnerable areas from counter attacks, espionage, and insurgent forces. Conduct investigations into criminal activity committed by allied forces. Guard allied troops found to have committed crimes. Guard key leadership. Route reconnaissance and security. So much more.
