With today's changing warfare, we need more armored ifv These are APCs, they are used to transport troops behind lines, not to fight tanks or other ifv, Generally systems like atgms, sams, 105mm are installed on ifvs, because it can withstand machine fire and also has huge carrying capacity

Sir...RTA-90 was thought to be a follow-on after Saras Mk2...only initial approval was reportedly obtained but is it actually being designed or how far they have progressed is not yet reoprted...also they were planning for a DRDO-NAL designed tutboprop engine...this project is a good one but i might have missed on such news

Sir, More than 35 years back , there were 2 of similar machines in our inventory . BTR 60 & SKOT 2A . There was an effort to repower them with twin NISSAN JONGA engines . The trials were not much successful . It is nice to see Desi versions after such a long time . Kudos to TATA and MAHINDRA .

But these machines still use foreign engines. If in any critical situation the engine or its spare parts supply is stopped,, then these will be sitting ducks. India government must come up with a plan for indigenous engines for APCs tanks ships otherwise we'll be at the mercy of foreign vendors

Just wanted to share my opinions on this, i don't know if this matters or not but here it is. I think that this is a really great step towards modernizing the India Army and the reputation of the country in general, because the world respects you as much as it respects your army, and true respect comes from power, this is great way to showcase it, i really think that we should also add ATGMs on this AFV, because, as soon as we add an ATGM, it becomes an IFV basically, yeah we do use use BMPs from Russia, but that still doesn't seem to be something we can be proud of. Also, the sloped armour by Mahindra is not only better because it can bounce of the kinetic energy penetrators but also it's more stylish, Style matters even in combat. The only thing that i think that our forces are lacking is CAS heavy aircraft like the C130 gunship and a Strategic Bomber, just like the B12. These upgrades not only make us look strong but also make other countries fear India's military, i think that i might have developed a quote for Indian Armed Forces, WE'VE GOT THE GUTS, NOT THE GUNS. Hope the government keeps developing military equipments at this pace and soon we will be in TOP 3 most powerful nations by military in the world.

I think India shoud abandon L1/L2 methods of choosing the vehicles. In my thought it should be based on the capability vs cost of the vehicle.

If I am not wrong, L1/L2 came due to past corruption scandals in defence deals. But now we certainly need some innovative procurement process that can keep corruption away, while decrease the acquisition timeline.

Subodh Ji...Tapas II ke bad se dil me uthal-puthal machi hui thi but in last couple of days & few positive new se dil me kuch thand padi hai...around year 2000s i had read in armada magazine about the french crotale ad-system which was based on similar vehicle...now that we have 2-3 vehicle manufacturers of our own, we MUST try to produce some similar but modern AFV & AD systems, sort of Biho or deep-upgrade crotale...i would love to see an AD system with a combo of 23/30mm multipurpose gun combined with 6-8 light weight SAMs (6-10km) OR light-weight ATGMs along with suitable AESA & EO/IR systems

The answer to you question is BUDGET . Indian armed forces are the only force in the world that is under budgeted compared to the size and scale it operates. I.e merely 1-2% of the Indias GDP, compared to the global military spending of more than 3-4 % of the GDP. Jai hind

Would love to see it with a independent commander FLIR sight for "hunter killer" mode along with a turret having electrically operated 20mm auto cannon or DShK gun and 2 ATGMs in sealed canisters "ready to fire" mode controlled by gunner from with in the vehicle . There can be other variations of turret mounted weapons but what i suggested is a basic layout But 1 thing that i thing Mahindra should also make is a model carring a 80/120 mm mortar for " shoot and scoot " operations like that of French 2R2M system as now a days mortar and artillery teams are very much vulnerable to counter-battery fire especially assisted by enemy drone reconnaissance . In today's battlefield (post 2023 Ukraine war) nothing is safe if it is staying there for more than 5 mins as drones will find them out . So keep changing positions every 10 mins is a key to survival in contemporary war scenario .

I agree, at first look, the Mahindra APC looks better designed. I am praying Adani Defence doesn't make another Atmanirbhar APC just like it did with that Israeli drone. This will kill every indigenous R&D in the country and give rise to another type of defence imports.
