About issue of “Praan Pratishtha” and “Completion of temple” astrological and architectural position is as below: Regarding Griha Pravesh of a residential building there are clear dictums that it should only be performed when construction of roof is completed and all the doors are installed. Regarding completion of temple, there is difference between construction of DOME and SHIKHAR of a temple. Dome just over the idol of the deity; is equivalent to construction of roof of a building. And construction of SHIKHAR (over the dome) falls under the 5th tenet of Hindu Architecture --- i,e., PATADI SAT CHANDAS related to beautification of the building. The author could not find any specific dictum in canonical treatises of Hindu Architecture (Shaastras) regarding entry into a temple or Praan Pratishta of idol in a temple in respect of status of temple construction. Thus directions stated in Shaastras regarding house shall be applied. However, elaborate directions are available in Muhurt treatises about Muhurt of Praan Pratishta of an idol. Therefore, idol can be installed in a temple having its DOME fully constructed , that means there is a roof over the idol, even if some beautification work of the temple is still pending Further beautification of a temple is a continuous process .... which may take years together in a temple, Further Muhurt dictums are culled out from the mythological stories in Hindu religious treatises.
