Following immediately after the events of THE RAID, Rama (Iko Uwais) is forced to reinvent himself as an undercover cop in order to provide protection for his wife and child. Working for the anti-corruption taskforce led by the one person he can trust, Bunawar, he is given a mission to engage himself as an enforcer for a local mob boss, Bangun. I didn’t really appreciate what sells this scene for me then it hit me, it’s the sound effects. The sound of the metal bat and the hammers hitting, the wet sound of bodies bursting, it’s what takes this from a well choreographed scene to a brutal assault. Kudos to whoever the sound design guy was.

Fun Fact: The weapons they used are symbolism to their traumatic childhood. The siblings were abused by their father with the very weapons they mastered as assassins. If I'm not mistaken, both killed their dad with a baseball bat and a hammer. The weapons were not just a random choice. It reminded them of their freedom and how to utilize it for their enemies. I personally wouldn't mind to see a prequel about these two.

Very interesting and that would make sense based on the vague info from the movie alone but now I must read this comic book to explore these characters further. Both enigmatic characters, as is the third part of their trio in the Assassin but they really capture the imagination just based on small details in their characters. Like I'd imagine the reason Hammer Girl is one eyed and mute is due to that abuse, though that's just speculation based on this new info learned, appreciate the new info at any rate!

There's a reason why Hammergirl did the assault onboard the train, and Rama took out the gang in the apartment alley on Raid1. Just like SunTzu, those silat fighters are trained to take advantage of the environment and surroundings, and do the "step" that make you only exposed to as few attacks as possible. Bat Man's the only one who ever talks, so presumably they use sign language since she's mute. (A deaf assassin would be super bad). But frankly it's surprising you don't see more assassin or ninja characters use sign language in films, considering that not only is it silent communication, you could use it in real life and there's a low probability of someone understanding you.

That would be useful But a lot of assassins and usually every ninjas tend to work in the dark, like literally dark places While assassin who do work in broad daylight or places and time with good visibility would certainly benefit, those who approach their target using the cover of night would be greatly disadvantaged It's even worse for ninjas Tho it could be solved if both wear NV goggles like Sam Fisher

Something about the sound of that metal bat just makes the whole scene deeply unsettling. I don't know, it just sounds so...muted compared to how you think it might sound making contact with a person. It doesn't sound all the menacing when you hear it compared to the hammers. I don't know, maybe it's just me.

I think it's the lack of reverb, which kind of indicates he's not only gripping the bat tightly, but that each of his swings took a dead stop on their target, and didn't just bounce off. Gives it a lot more impact.

And there are many colleges and other types of martial arts. Depending on culture, art in an area .. Indonesians used to learn silat for drive out the invaders .
