@@nvw2978 Irish BACKGROUND, the parents themselves are, as the accents tell you, English!. I must admit i also thaught his parents were actual Irish as opposed to just being of Irish background. Dad seems very nice and reasonable here but Boy George has said MANY times, his dad was a nasty bully!. People tend to "act" when in front of a camera. Maybe that's the case here?.
@eddiek66602 жыл бұрын
@@chopchung his mother was 100% Irish from Dublin. His father was English born but of Irish heritage. 👍
@themaggattack2 жыл бұрын
@@chopchung He wasn't acting at all. He admitted that he was a bully at first. As soon as the interviewer brought up the makeup, his dad went from smiling to looking downward in shame. His dad admitted he was a bully at first by saying "I reacted"... "I would have given him a back hand"... "wash it out"... But he also said he's a good singer, has a good wit, and lots of talent. You can tell his dad was proud of him and loved him. George knows that too, from what he's said about his dad in other interviews. He loves his father and he knows his father loved him. It was just REALLY hard back in those days dealing with being an effeminate boy and accepting that your son was effeminate. Yes, his dad was a homophobic bully at first, but he came around. He did the best he could.

I felt like I knew these couple of diamonds already. George has always spoke so beautifully about his parents and vice versa. His mother seems like a tower of strength and... And his father's love for his son is also clear to see. Considering it was the seventies/early eighties... Their attitudes are light years ahead of society. Definitely makes me proud of my working class and Celtic roots.
@lyrebird97492 жыл бұрын
You're mistaken. George spoke beautifully about his mum, not his dad. His dad was an abusive bully to whom George said "If you're what a man is, I don't want to be one". What his dad is saying here to camera is very different to the reality.

Man, I was so happy with that response and loved my dad so much (I hit the jackpot with my dad). So, I ended up dressing up fun and colorful throughout high school going to dances and just living life to the fullest. I moved on to college where I grew out of it but whenever I hear his songs it brings back good times. And, those backyard pics are in our family albums proudly displayed by my dad.

This is a lovely interview ... me and a friend independently told each other stories of how we introduced our first borns (now 9 and 12) to Boy George... kamacamelion is like one of the earliest songs you sing them in their pop education.... then you got to show them the vid to "see Boy George" ... much respect!

Those "loving reasonable parents" are only what you see when a TV camera is there. George's dad was a violent, abusive man who beat his wife and kids. Watch this video (5:50 in ) George says if his father was a man, he didn't want to be one. kzbin.info/www/bejne/amnSg4qVl9SVn6s

Georges dad abused Dinah alot, especially when she was pregnant with George. He didn't love his wife, like a husband should Which is why he re- married, then shortly died.

Ahhh..the 80s!! At the time of this interview, I was 12 years old and proudly sporting 3 Boy George buttons on my “members only” jacket😂😂. My family wasn’t happy about it AT ALL and always asked why in the world I would want to wear them bc he looked like a girl and a freak, but they allowed it and didn’t fight me too much bc I loved him and his music so much😂😂. Still do❤️. …about the same response from my parents about the life size Michael Jackson poster I had on my wall during this time❤️😂😂.
