@dionysianapollomarx
@dionysianapollomarx 4 жыл бұрын
@@SUuperCLasSH with Yang, if you ceteris paribus like most capitalist economists it works. It doesn't tax the rich, just the aspects of transactions that Big Tech has maneuvered in such a way that they pay less in overall taxes and charges, e.g. Amazon and Facebook, since the transactions are virtual and hard to track (they're middlemen that don't pay taxes, except for the obvious ones). It's good math in that sense, but outside that, where ceteris paribus is a fallacy, it isn't, and the policy does not target other firms that rely on profits from much, much less transactions than Amazon and the like, hence it doesn't go beyond scope, which is why it isn't as bad as most make it out to be. Expenditures for the Freedom Dividend program will source mostly from that revenue without moving too much capital within the system. Unlike the Green New Deal or Warren's wealth tax, which is just willy-nilly and portends fiscal mismanagement. It's not bad math. But implementing Yang's policy is another thing, since most people don't use ears to listen and only to hear noise and whatever confirms their biases, and there's always uncertainty in any economic policy.

This is a “sounds good doesn’t work” moment. Politics requires different resource and skill set. Being very intelligent doesn’t guarantee anything in politics. In fact, many people would point out that politician just need to look “authoritative”, they don’t have to know, understand or get involved with what they say to be elected.

@patrickhorlaville 4 жыл бұрын
You would have to define what intelligence is before making such comments. Considering only a certain side of Villani's skills, he for sure doesn't seem like a good enough candidate. But you my friend need to observe this character with a larger scope than the one you are probably using right now
@lc9245

@@patrickhorlaville Politicians have to balance between different groups interest to stay in power. Would a man with a rational message be a good politician? Not really, we don't know much about his ability to do that, we only know he's a brilliant mathematician. How does being a mathematician help you gain votes or stay in power? You tell me.
@patrickhorlaville
@patrickhorlaville 4 жыл бұрын
@@lc9245 1) Defining a good politician as someone who is able to balance between different group interests is a point of view (what does it even mean, a good politician? your view is debatable) 2) I am not sure to follow you with your second sentence: would a man with a rational message be a good politician... doesn't make sense for the same reason as above, but if we take your definition, I still don't see the link between an ability to balance different group interests and possessing a rational message... 3) Correction: only as far as you may know, he only is a good mathematician. Villani is more than that. He's been implicated in politics technically since he was a student. He developed his taste for it at university and since, even though he has been brought on the international scene for his pure theoretical work, he has participated in a lot of outreach activities surpassing the math world. And finally, 4) if you judge a politician by his ability to stay in power, then I'm afraid we do not live by the same values, which is not reconcilable.
@lc9245
@lc9245 4 жыл бұрын
@@patrickhorlaville You live with your values. Politician can only do things if they stay in power. If they are voted out or their party ostracise them, would they still be a politician? Look, I give my scepticism, because it happened before. Scientist getting into politics, hoping to do something good and then disappear. You might think I'm cynical, but it's your perspective, reality will finish the tale.

While Macron is more and more hated by the people who vote for him Le Pen gain more popularity each day. A recent survey show that if the 2022 take place today Le Pen will lost with 44%. This 10% more than the last election. And if Macron do nothing Le Pen will win the next election. France would probably be the first Europeans country who remigrate it foreign population.

Higher GDP does not necessarily mean improvement of lives of the people: 1) USSR had high GDP from all the military industrial production, but had a tremendous lack of food products in the shops and people had to stand in long queues for hours just to get them; 2) The economic development that doesn't put focus on ecology and environment protection is not sustainable. "When the last tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money". You can make it a secondary objective by promoting a slower paced capitalisti system. But then again people preach environmental change but then they complain when carbon taxes are imposed. Look at france and the gilet Jaunes. A minimum change in the price of oil caused concessions in billions of taxes for other carbon intensive industries. Everything most be gradual but the present well being of the population most not be sacrificed for long run objectives.

Villani was overconfident. He split the anti-Hidalgo votes with the official LREM candidate Griveaux (according to the opinion polls, the majority of Parisians wanted to replace her) instead of withdrawing and so she remained Mayor of Paris. He then also lost his position as Deputy during the last election to the LREM candidate Paul Midy. Since he received a great deal of financial and other support from LREM to get elected as Deputy in the first place, Villani has become regarded as an untrustworthy opportunist in politics. Now he's gone back to full-time academia, but the deterioration in his appearance (the dissipation of his youth has finally caught up with him, he looks like a homeless pensioner now and he's not even 50 years old) combined with his erratic behaviour in public (observe his participation in discussions on issues completely outside his mathematical expertise) indicate that he's unlikely to be taken seriously again even in mathematics (unless he does something spectacular with the Boltzmann equation or the Riemann hypothesis).

@@jackmccourt3542 Fair enough, but there's no evidence to suggest that the private sector wouldn't have created something similar or even better. Also, how do you know that a socialist system would've allowed for these products to be commercially available? That's the real issue here, the Army or whatnot might invent products for its own use, but only a private company has the profit motive to actually mass produce such products. The government would be completely inefficient in that process as has been proven time and time again throughout history (the Soviet Union, Cuba, today's Venezuela)! Fully socialist governments struggle to provide even the most basic of services, such as food, housing, electricity, etc. In capitalism there's a bell curve of wealth distribution. There are some ultra-wealthy individuals, a majority of perfect well-off middle class citizens, and a handful of low income people. To me that's a lot better than the socialist bell curve, which is everyone collected at the bottom, lowest standard of living, with a few enormously wealthy technocrats and oligarchs (party members and such) at the top. Socialism achieves equality, it's just that everyone gets to have it equally TERRIBLE!
