Carol Kane's always been so good! I love her in "Scrooged" and was so happy when I learned she was joining SNW. I instantly loved how quirky Pelia is.

I absolutely loved Carol in the first new episode, and she is a very different energy for Trek. But I worry she'll become the stock go-to for comedy relief. I hope the writers have some good dramatic moments queued up for her to get her teeth into.

Oh my gosh, she looks fantastic. She has been in more great things than virtually anybody, going back to "Carnal Knowledge" in 1971, "The Last Detail"....."Annie Hall", "Hester Street", "When A Stranger Calls", ""Taxi"......and that's just the 70s! And I know I'm forgetting stuff! One of the only actors I can think of who regularly went back and forth between movies and TV with absolutely no problem at all, no one classified her as a "TV actress" in a way that it killed, say, Cindy Williams movie career (which had been going great before she got "Happy Days" and "Lavern & Shirley").

This last episode was very wicked and awesome! I hope we get a Kahn miniseries with Brent Spiner losing control of his creations! I also loved the shout out to the TOS Canadian actors with the Toronto backdrop!

ONE THING that endeared Scotty to the fans was his LOVE for the Enterprise. Wonder if Pelia will have the same kind of relationship? Remember, the Enterprise IS AS MUCH A CHARACTER in the show as Pike, Spock, Uhura OR KIRK!!!!!!!!!!

2:05 - wait, she teaches a course at the Acadamy on Warp Core breaches? That might have been helpful to Geordi given the Ent D Star drive section atomised itself from one, or at least how to design a Warp Core that doesn't threaten to blow up by just looking at it...

Warp Core Breach as a dramatic device should really only be used *exceedingly* sparingly. You don't put ships as big, or as valuable, as Ent-D into service if core breaches are as common as they seem to be on ST:NG.... Just like the Daleks on Dr. Who - a precious resource, but over-used and wasted by the writers, thus wasting their impact. Should be used with more care!

Most of modern Star trek is pure unadulterated cringe, but strangely the Pelia character has grown on me.

How can she have hidden on Earth for hundreds of years, but have a recognizable accent? All the other aliens who never spend any time with humans have no accents-Vulcans, Klingons, Cardassians-but Lanthanites are on Earth for Centuries-and they still can’t eradicate it? … Also, this Lanthanite 22nd plot, and that New Jersey time travel smuggler from the 22nd century should come together with the NX-01 Enterprise somehow…

I could think of a whole host of characters that come long before Pelia in terms of annoying. The top 2: Wesley Crusher (so bad a newsgroup in the 90s existed: alt.ensign.wesley.die.die.die) and Neelix. Neelix could have qualified for Jar Jar 28 years ago (1995) before Jar Jar even existed. And, well, Wesley: On Edo, "Whoops. Prime Directive, gotta go, bye!"
