The moment her lawyer asked the prosecution to read out the Starfleet code about captains granting asylum made me applaud the writing for this episode.

It was a great episode but if I could point something out. In Deep Space Nine S5E16, Dr. Julian Bashir’s genetic engineering is discovered and he goes on trial to determine if he can stay in Starfleet Medical as a doctor. That episode was really brilliant due to the fact that Bashir had to come to terms with his predicament and confront his parents about their decision that he couldn’t make as a child.

glad they brought up measure of a man. This episode was very reminiscent of that, combined with a bit of the genetic engineering stuff Dr. Bashir had to go through in DS9. It ended feeling a bit derivative because of that, but it was still a decent episode. There was only so much that could be done without breaking the canon because genetic engineering is illegal in DS9.

My favorite episode! It teaches gently and intelligently. This is why Star Trek will always be relevant and superior to me...over that galaxy far far away. 😏

They are fundamentally different things. The only real similarity is they're both set in space. It really is like comparing apples to oranges. Both are fruit, but beyond that...
