Meet Chewy The Sloth

Thank you to my amazing husband for the best birthday gift I could ever ask for. I got to hold, hug, love on, AND feed a sloth! We even got to stroll around the zoo and watch wallabies on a walkabout within the exhibit! It was worth waiting seven months for! Watch for all the sloth cuteness! His name is Chewy! 😉 🦥

It’s the same thing with snakes, because they love human body heat-they’ll just wrap around you and stay forever if they trust you. And they’re pure muscle, so they really can stay as long as they like, lol. A teacher of mine kept snakes in her classroom, and my favorite was a gorgeous, 4-foot-long corn snake who I would get to hold-or, more accurately, who would get to hold me-all day long. This corn snake would just wrap herself around my neck and shoulders and chest after getting inside of my shirt via the neck or arm holes and stay there while we did lessons, and she’d refuse to let go even at the end of the day when my mother had arrived to take me home, lol, so I’d have to stay quite a bit longer, until we could persuade her to let go. It probably would’ve looked creepy to some people, but I just thought it was the sweetest thing ever. This teacher ran the gifted program, and I was one of only two students who managed to test into the gifted program as early as kindergarten, so I really got to spend a lot of time with this snake-one day a week from kindergarten until 7th grade, when another teacher (unfortunately) took over the gifted program-and I’d always loved snakes :) This teacher had been (and probably still is) keeping snakes in her room for decades, and there had never (and probably still haven’t) been any bites. And these were rescue snakes, too, that had been injured in the wild and had to be rehabilitated. My teacher had a working relationship with local wildlife conservation agencies that gave her the rehabilitated snakes to use as ambassadors, to teach people about snakes. The corn snake’s name was Ruadh; and, in addition to her, there was a speckled kingsnake named Andromeda; a smaller, gray-colored snake (whose species I don’t know) named Junior; and a black rat snake named Schwartz, who actually wasn’t holdable because the injuries he’d sustained in the wild had never properly healed and holding him would’ve been painful for him, and may have resulted in a bite.
