Amazon said the introduction of robots was about “freeing employees up to better deliver for our customers”, but a union said the company’s automation is a “head-first race to job losses”.

These robots seem slower than humans (for now) but in the long run the company won't need 100% human work force 24/7. Robots now cost more than to pay a human but robots do not come with Unions. These robots can probably work if there are storms, road blockages or lock downs. Fulfillment center's definition of essential workers will change because of these robots.

These will be used in the gaps in auto sort systems. Work stations where humans currently work. These robots are still early versions, the yellow bins are all empty. Just having the robots share space together is a risky, they can damage each other if fritzed. I predict, in three years the first all robot Amazon facility will go online. In eight more years, all will be robot run.

More like $200,000 once, $30,000 every year as subscription to keep it running. Oh, and every alteration in actions it takes will cost you $60,000 and will take 6 months to rollout. Things like that are pure marketing gimmick, if they actually wanted to save money by replacing workers they would just put robotic arm on transfer unit (rail)
