oh yeah, the famous PRAISE THE SUN ☀ also too, in regards to your question, Escanor was hiding from the public that accused him and the rest of the Deadly Sins for the murder of the back-then grandmaster- Zaratras. and he didn't know that the accusation wore off until that reunion with injured Ban in this episode. this also relates to Meliodas announcing to try find all the Sins together with Elizabeth way back in the very first episode

Apparently, he got his Sin for committing disrespect towards the King. Like he refused to kneel in front of the King in his arrogance and also refused to admit his mistakes/crimes. At that time, he saved several towns and villages from monsters, but due to his overwhelming power and his inability to hold back his strength at that time, people were more scared of him than the monsters he defeated for them. Holy knights were sent to apprehend him, but he beat the crap out of all of them. So he was charged with terrorising and destroying many villages and towns, gravely injuring the Holy Knights who tried to restrain him and for disrespecting the king as well. But still, true to the Sin that he represents, he is haughty and arrogant as fuck. The best thing is, he totally believes in it
