This is a nice video, highlighting all the breeds, and probably was a lot of work to put together. I appreciate these owners, loving their cat breeds. But I encourage everyone to check their local shelter if they really want to find an amazing variety of beautiful one of a kind cat. You will find them in all shapes and sizes, and they are all looking for loving homes. The shelters are bursting at the seams. The most beautiful cat is the cat you love.

Very true. We had two domestic shorthairs from the county shelter in FL. One died at age 17 -- she was a real cuddler and just so sweet. The other is still with us, an old gent of 18. We also have an Abyssinian who is now 16 that we found at the same county shelter. You never know what you will find at the shelter. Just go and handle the kittens and cats; go several times until one strikes your fancy whether it be their personality, coloring, fur type, etc. Our tabby shorthair was a juvenile and pacing back and forth in his cage and so interested in our fingers at his cage. We named him Zenda because he was a prisoner at the shelter and obviously wanted to get out of that cage. Having just watched that old movie, The Prisoner of Zenda, that is how he got his name.

Kudos to you! I would love to have a ragdoll or main coon but as long as there's a lot of homeless cats (and dogs and other animals) I just can't allow myself to pay for a pure breed knowing that the price for one could/would save a lot of other cats. At the moment I have two older females (they came to me around march/april this year) and I'd guess one is a norweigan forest cat (or maybe mix). Sadly she wont let me cut her (too long) claws or brush her (matted) fur. They have probably not been handled properly before they came to me. Hopefully I can be the change. They are both cuddely and sweet tho.

And I believe that they were originally Scandinavian in origin: the Norse goddess Freya - her chariot was pulled by gigantic gray blue cats with green eyes. Also, the Vikings came to & created Kyivan Rus in the 800s, so my new theory is that they’re of Norse/Viking/Ukrainian origins, and that the #ruZZians appropriated them, as they do pretty much everything that isn’t nailed down. I think I’ve solved the “mystery of their origin.”

@sabeaver967727 күн бұрын
@ That is completely wrong - I will provide details later. Meanwhile you can look up St Olha, or Olga, of Kyivan Rus. #ruZZia even stole the name Rus!!! Muscovy was a swamp until 1150 AD or thereabouts. Meanwhile, going all the way back, Ukraine had a magnificent Neolithic civilization- the Trypillian Culture - now said to be the very first civilization in Europe - right near Kyiv. The designs on our pysanky, to this day, are carried down from ancient pagan Trypillian designs & symbols.

We have an Aby that we got at a county animal shelter!! You can never tell what you will find at the shelter. He was just a kitten and was very active, talkative and curious and he still is. However, as he has gotten older (he is about 16 now) he has become a lap cat. He also will dig under a cover if you are under that cover reading. He loves to be surrounded by soft donut beds, or under a blanket. He has a welcoming personality. If someone rings the doorbell, he is in the foyer waiting to see who it is and to welcome them as if to say, "I am Lionel, your cruise director! Come right this way!" I would love to have so many of these breeds but we are seniors now and do not want to get another cat because they would probably outlive us. We also have a DSH which is also a shelter rescue. He is more mellow, loves his warming cat bed (he is 18), and still enjoys his food and being with us.

Technically everything is a mutation. We associate mutation negatively because of media like radioactive TV shows but it's neutral. One dog being bigger than another can be a mutation, a snake being lighter in color is a simple mutation, a fish being blue rather than green etc. the issue is really just when a mutation causes some sort of suffering and then still being bred, either by ignorance or neglecting to address or take that individual out of the breeding pool etc.

My cat Claire actually has a very rare immune disorder that's only found in Sphinx and Devon Rex, it's called Feline Urticaria pigmentosa. But yea like you though it's because of years of selective breeding which most likely had inbreeding somewhere down the line. I even got mine from a very reputable breeder so there's no escaping it. It's long in there family tree. Because my cats family trees are better documented than mine lmao.

I had a male Ragdoll for over 20 years, his name was Sam. My wife found him as a kitten, at the local shelter. He ignored me for about a year. Then one day he was in the back yard cornered by 4 dogs, frightened and in shock. I pulled him to safety. Luckily he had no physical injuries. Since that day, all his attention was towards me. He always followed me around and waited for me to return from work. He was indoor/outdoor cat. He asked to be let out and in. He never killed any creatures, although he loved to play with all of them. He would find rodents and then take them out where they belong...Sam's job title was "Rodent Relocation Specialist first class". Sam was a big fluffy cat, around 23 pounds. He needed grooming and haircuts...Everyone who ever saw him was impressed by his appearance. Sam has been gone for few years now. There is a huge hole in my heart that hasn't been filled. Many pictures of him keep memories alive...

I have a cat that's believed to be a Turkish Angora mix. Since she's a rescue with a largely unknown past, I don't know what else is in there but she has that soft Angora coat and the large pointy ears, her eyes are also set in a very Angora-like way. (My best guess is Turkish Angora/European Shorthair.) She's a sweetheart too and has been sleeping in my bed from day 1 at the foot end. Not much of a cuddly one yet but maybe in a year or two. My other cat has an unkown breed but I love her all the same. Another rescue cat. I chose her according to her personality, not her breed or coat color. I did think about getting a purebreed cat but .... eventually veered towards adopting rescue cats. You can also find purebred cats as rescues though.

Pumpkin I stayed overnight in a cozy little motel in Kentucky on my return trip from a conference in Texas. I decided to read awhile before going to sleep. I went to my car that was parked outside my room. I left the door to my room open. As I closed the door to my car, I looked at my hotel room door. There was a magnificent cat peeking into the room. As I approached the door, I meowed at the cat and the cat entered my room. I put a bowl of water on the floor for the cat and prepared for bed. A few minutes after lying down on the bed to read, the cat approached me and gently laid down on my abdomen. I was amazed! The cat laid there and purred. The cat had wrapped me around it's paw! The next morning I asked the wait staff in the motel restaurant about the cat. They said the cat had been around for a couple weeks. I asked the maid and she told me the same thing. As I was getting ready to leave, I preformed one last test. I put the cat on the ground. She rubbed against me and purred. I followed her to a U-Haul vehicle. She purred around my legs again. That was all of the encouragement I needed. Off to a store to purchase litter and litter box, food, water, and bowl. I soon discovered I should have purchased a house as she decided the best place to be was beneath my feet next to the clutch! Oops - not a good idea. Eventually the cat decided the next best place was in the litter box on the back seat. That evening I met my husband and a friend who were attending a meeting. By now I was covered with white hair, but no one noticed in the dim lights of the night club. I said to my husband, I picked up a hitch hiker. He replied - cat or dog? By now the cat had gone 24 hours without urinating. We carried all of the cat items I purchased in the hotel room. The first thing the cat did was jump in the litter box and pee! The next morning my husband purchased a carrier for the cat, and the cat and I continued our journey home. He also named the cat Pumpkin - because of her color. When we took her to the vet we were informed that she had a bad case of ear mites and quite a few fleas. She underwent a hysterectomy only to discover that she had already been "fixed". The incision was not mid line and no one thought too look on her side, which is where the surgery is conducted when a cat is in heat. Ultimately Pumpkin became my cat. She would come to the living room to remind me that it was time for bed. She had several physical problems - thyroid (received radioactive treatment), small tumors, and ultimately she was on chemotherapy. She died in my arms. Her picture is next to our bed. I never understood how anyone could let such a precious cat out. The next time you are staying at a motel and see a friendly cat, find out if it belongs to anyone and then, if you can, don't hesitate to "adopt" the cat before it suffers the indignity of a shelter! The life you save will reward you with more love than you can imagine! peace and joy, Katherine

My girl is official lap warmer, her brother is Guardian, supervisor. I’m especially grateful to my girl cat, Money. She warned me of a fire simmering in the upstairs bathroom by looking up there from my lap. She never did that. I went to check, had to call the fire department. My girl saved everyone’s life thanks to her sensing something was wrong. I didn’t see smoke from downstairs. I don’t have a sense of smell but watched her tense, looking upstairs and thank goodness I checked. I’m still not right from the smoke two months ago. Caught it in time.

edited because I screwed up a spelling!! Not quite everybody, but close. I think it's just not everybody was represented at that particular show. That said, this was a very comprehensive video and you did an excellent job, thank you! For those curious, some of the cats not mentioned: Somali, a longhaired Abyssinian, Balinese, a longhaired Siamese, La Perm, another cat with a curly coat, more slender than the wooly sweater cutie shown here, Snowshoes - this doesn't surprise me as they are a rare, mostly failed breed offshoot of Siamese. They're not popular because their coloring is very specific and very difficult to breed. It's very VERY rare to get the coloring on a Snowshoe exact enough to be "show worthy" due to natural variance. American Wirehair - weird weird coat type, almost like a dog wirehair. Munchkin - the dachshunds of the cat world. Big head itty bitty legs. Kind of controversial due to the short legs. Chartreux - Similar gray coloring to the iconic British Shorthair gray. Manx - I have no idea why this breed wasn't represented. It's well-established. Another bob/natural short tail. Turkish Van - another fairly well-established breed. I will say they're somewhat similar to the Angora, but stockier, but I don't know the breed well. Scottish Straight - I don't know if CFA recognizes these guys for show separately. I know they can be shown but maybe only through TICA. When Scottish Folds are bred, two folded ear cats cannot be bred together. All the kittens would have an inhumane medical condition. So all Scottish Fold litters have one "straight ear" parent and one fold parent. Half the kittens are true Scottish Folds and half are born with straight ears, called Scottish Straights. They are purebred pedigreed "Scottish Folds", just with normal ears. It makes them look a bit like British Shorthairs, because that's their history, the gene was discovered in a Brit Shorthair litter :) If you can't tell, I'm partial to these. The Toyger, Burmilla, Khao Manee and Chausie probably weren't there because they're rarer, but just know they exist. The Toyger is like the Bengal, but instead of leopard spots they're trying for stripes. Burmillas have an extremely soft coat. Khao Manees are very rare, pure white shorthair cats from Thailand. Chausies have unusual noses that are vaguely unsettling to me you'll just have to look them up. There's also the Sokoke but they're *very* rare and it's unlikely they'd come to Ohio for a cat show. And there's the australian mist but I don't think CFA recognizes them. Only TICA. So not every breed in the world, but most of the ones CFA recognizes :)

I love bred cats like these so much but I just feel so bad for all the abandoned kitties in the shelters. So I only adopt.

We have 6 cats: a brother and sister - she is a tortie, their names are Miriam and Moses. Samantha is my gold cat who loves to sit on my lap. After my cat, Pumpkin, died I brought Buttercup home thinking she would be like Pumpkin - boy was I wrong. Snowflake, so named for the white dot on the tip of his tail, knocked on the door every morning at 0330! He is handsome and loves to sit on my husband's lap.. Paul discovered Cutie Pie on the deck. He is loveable.

They are stunning. My family has had all sorts of cats over the years. Some breeds we had were Oriental, Siamese, Bengal, Sphinx, Persian and Mekong Bobtails. Some other breeds I find really pretty are solid-coloured ones like the Russsian or the Havana and the Devon and Abyssinian are also really nice. Though that's just personal preference. And Torties are super charming as well my absolute favourite even over breeds. Of the breeds we had the one I liked the most personality-wise was the Mekong. Always do your research people before getting a cat especially breed ones.

I love Ragdoll cats, but I have an American Shorthair who I love too. He’s only less than a year old boy kitty. He’s also blonde and has green eyes. I love him.

Both my cats are strays from the neighborhood. It was about a year adjustment for each, but well worth it.

I don't know anything about cat breeds, but I was quite pleased by this video

Pleasantly surprised by the comments really encouraging adoption! Even if you’re unable to adopt or foster, there’s definitely a local shelter or community colony that could use a hand ♥️

Imagine doing cat karaoke as a paid gig. I wonder if they travel around the US doing that in every city. My God.

I still don't know what my feral is. She's got the tuxedo patterning, but her head proportions are similar to the American Bobtail and the Korat (which her body proportions are also like). Even if she's a mix, I don't know of what. Hahaha. I just know she's the biggest snuggler/protector. 🥰

I enjoyed the video but wish you had covered the manx. Maybe there weren't any there. I have one that never grew very big. She's 4yrs old and only weighs 3lbs. My tiny best friend. My profile pic is her actually. We call her Bitty
