Even as an ESFP, you still use Fi. It's totally possible. Fi can be a quiet little thing until it isn't. When it's triggered, it can go into full psychoanalysis of everything with Te egging it on, giving info to confirm things. I'm an ENFP so I'm used to Ne going off, but my Fi/Te is the one that will drive me nuts when it overanalyze things. It's more insidious getting tangled with my gut and emotions.
