They're also growing up with digital exams and probably way better smart boards. They're growing up with huge phones with like 3 cameras on the back AND SMART WATCHES!!, not the flip phones or tiny iPods. What kind of music will they like? How will they act? What kind of celebrities will be popular amoung them? Clothes? Maybe they're education will be even better? Honestly I'm starting to get jealous

Gen Z here. I’m gonna guess Gen Alpha will be the first generation to grow up in highly digital lives. People might say Gen Z was the first tech-native generation, and while that may have been true by the time we were in middle school, that was still a good ways into our childhoods. This generation will be the first to have access to smartphones and tablets from when they’re toddlers. It’ll likely have both positive and negative effects, but we’ll just have to see. Being optimistic, I’d say this Gen will know more about technology than us.

I'm a Zillenial. They say its people born between the years of 1993 and 1998. I was born on December 31, 1992. When January 1, 1994, began, I literally just turned 1 years old the day before. Its kinda weird and confusing: Dec 31 1992 = 1 day old Jan 1 1993 - Dec 31 1993 = 1 year old Jan 1 1994 = 1 year old (until Dec 31, 1994) So, it felt my age was strange and I felt out of place with my generation. So people told me that I am a cusper. Born in the early 90s to 1998. Anyways, We couldn't fully relate to Gen Y or Gen Zs. But we were aware of both of their cultures. We are like in-betweeners. We also saw how technology changed so fast. A lot has happened, and I wasn't even 21 yet. We saw the decline of VHS and the rise of DVDs. I was 7 years old when 9/11 happened. The kids born between 92/93 to 98 were 1 - 8 years old during 9/11. Some of us remember, some of us don't. But 9/11 shifted our reality. We lived through multiple video game console generations: -Sega Genesis/SNES (Late 80s to Mid 90s) I -N64 / PS1 / Sega Saturn (1994 - 2000) I was 7 when 2000 began. -Gamecube / Xbox / PS2 (2000 - 2006) I was 7 - 13 years old -Xbox 360 / Wii / PS3 (2006 - 2013) *I was 12 years old when it started, and 20 years old when it ended* -PS4 / Xbox / Wii U (2013 - 2020) *I was 20 years old when it started, and I was 27 when it ended. I'm 29 years old right now, and I experienced 5 generations of consoles under the age of 30 years. We saw MP3s completely died and Ipods became a thing. We remember when Iphones were first introduced. We all had a flip phones in the mid 2000s. We used to abuse limewire and downloaded music illegally. We stopped using CD players when MP3s came out. Then we stopped when Ipods came out. In 1998, we remember when Pokemon came out and all the 1st grade and 2nd grade kids were playing it. Watching the first movie in theatres. We also remember Digimon and saw the rise of Yu-Gi-Oh! We saw how popular anime was reaching the mainstream. I was 12 years old when Naruto first came out on Cartoon Network. Some of us remember growing up watching One Piece on Fox Box. We remember being bullied for liking or wearing anime merch because it wasn't "cool" ... "yet" We remember when we first got satellite cable and access to channels like Disney Channel, Nick and Cartoon Network in the late 90s to early 2000s. Before that, we also experienced watching regular TV. Watching Kids WB, Fox Kids and PBS Kids. I was 17 years old when Ipads were first released. I was still in high school. And it was groundbreaking and different. Also, I was about 16 years old when Adventure Time started. And Cartoon Network was trying to make a comeback. Adventure Time was huge with Gen Z. We were there when Netflix and Redbox took over Blockbuster and Hollywood video. We also saw the rise of streaming. We were in elementary/middle school when Myspace started. We were in high school when Facebook started. We were in our early 20s when Instagram and Snapchat came out. We were in our mid 20s when Tik Tok started. Our micro-generation of people are between the ages of 25 - 30 as of now. Most of us graduated high school in 2010 - 2016. The Alpha's started to be born around that. In 2016, the oldest of our micro-gen would have been 24 while the youngest of our gen would have been 19 years old. We were old enough to give birth to Gen Alpha but at the same time, too young to even rush into having kids. I feel as if we are a lost generation or a forgotten tribe. We didn't know where to fit in. Either we are Gen Y or Gen Z. We see both of cultures good traits and negative traits.
@Looneluxxe2 жыл бұрын
@justtheodor7ballpool Honestly I'd imagine that a lot of your frustration with gen alpha has less to do with them being digital natives and moreso that gen alpha is just Really young. The oldest gen alpha would be 12 right now and from personal, lived experience, everyone that age or younger is still going to be very childish (as that is what they are). It won't stay that way. Truthfully, generations are pretty arbitrary. yourself being a late gen Z, in terms of digital experience, yours won't be too different from theirs (it would be closer to gen alpha's experience than to the experience of early gen Z, that's for sure)

I kinda think you’re trying to hard (this is coming from a gen z), first of all your child is only 2 so you don’t have to worry about their future so much right now, when your child gets older let them go outside and just have some fun even though you may not see a ton of kids outside since parents are too overprotective, my little brother is gen alpha and he spends a lot of time outside (he used to spend a lot of time on screens until he became friends with our neighbors), I didn’t really have much screen time besides watching tv and playing on the computer until I was a an older kid so idk what kind of effect iPads have on young kids, one last thing is don’t let your kid become lazy and make sure they stay active (since there are a lot of obese and overweight kids these days)

I'm going to be an engineer when I grow up so I'll be surrounded by a lot of technology, so it will be useful in my future to be born in a generation with a better understanding of technology so we can figure out ways to advance it even more than it already is. I remember watching it in high school. -PS4 and Xbox One came out when I was 20. -Smash Bros Ultimate is aimed for people my generation or older because those characters are unknown to Gen Z and Gen Alpha since the majority of them came out in the 90s. Gen Z and Alpha didn't grow up with many of those characters like Mega Man, Cloud, Sora, Terry and such. -Pokemon is still going -Sonic is still going -Cuphead first released its trailer in 2013 when I was 20. The game didn't get released till I was 24. lol -Kingdom Hearts came out when I was 9. Kingdom Hearts 3 didn't came out till I was 26... Just like your generation, we were told that we were glued to our video games and cell phones (this was in 2000s BTW) or we have too much access to the internet. It's a pattern. Besides adapting. Every generation will get jealous of the next because they have better opportunities than the last. Or better technology.

Gen Alpha here. I'm 11 and in 6th grade. A lot of the stuff your talking about I did not relate with in the slightest. I'm not sure if that is because of the way I was raised, or because I was born in 2010, and am a " cusper". I do spend a lot of time on a screen, but it isn't just a screen. For example one of my favorite activity is to swing outside whilst listening to music. I also like to shower whilst listening to music. In my opinion, I don't think Gen alpha will live on a screen, rather we will work screens into daily life more often. I can say a lot of people at my school do seem to be addicted to technology. So what I am saying might be biased, for my parents raised me to love the outdoors, and simple moments without a screen. I don't want to sound like flexing, or desperately trying to defend Gen alpha but personally the idea I'm " filling myself with filth" by watching a screen is very incorrect and worrisome. Because i have spent so much time on a screen im self aware. I'm aware of threat and opportunities screens can present. Because of this i rather fill my time on a screen being productive. (i.e. researching about my pets to provide them the best living condition, watching ted talks to open my mind to idea, and researching school projects.) All the things other generations say we wont experience are not true. I relate with many other generations from childhood. Other generations think were so "different," when in truth we are really not. I understand where you are coming from but... other generation seem to dismiss the fact they are as addicted to tech as we are. I would also like to say, because of the digital age brings many opportunity, but with those are also down falls. One big thing for me is being exposed to people. In previse generation you might feel alone, but now gen alpha can feel like they fit in. Altho one down fall is that there are so many older people on the internet. Because of this we feel we have to fit in, and are forced into a position were we have to be mature. almost forcing us to grow up. and because of cyber bulling, and the humor on the internet kid have much darker humor, and are very defensive. i feel sometime as if a husk of a person, pushing feelings down so i can appear strong and old. i also feel i allow very little people to see the real me, as if putting on an internet personality in real life. Thank you for your time, sincerely Gen Alpha.

How do I know this? Technology advances.
@sevensongs2 жыл бұрын
People have this "tech native" concept wrong. Gen Z was the first tech-native generation, particularly the younger ones. But the difference isn't in access to technology, it's in the moderation of technology. Most Gen Zs were the children of GenXers who embraced technology. It was exciting! There was so much potential! As such, their children had fairly unfiltered access. Millennials, on the other hand, grew up to find themselves addicted and immersed in that same tech - especially social media. And they watched their younger siblings (and for some of the older ones, their own children) follow down that path. Millennials love their phones, but hate the addictive nature of it, and while they may let their children use google and youtube, many actually heavily monitor it. Parents of a lot of 9 and 10 year olds don't let their children have open smartphones. They may have a locked down phone or a watch, but a lot don't have the unfiltered access most Gen Zs had. So there is a disconnect from the technology that the other "digital natives" won't have. And there is a skepticism passed down from their parents. I've also noticed that Gen Alpha hasn't been as dramatically affected by the Covid lockdowns as their older, Gen Z siblings. Or, rather, the effect has been different. Because of their ages, the social anxiety affected them differently - causing Gen Z to withdraw further into technology, while Gen Alpha associated technology with school (aka work to a child) and is now more drawn toward in-person interaction than the options available on apps like Messenger Kids.
@CaptainHarlock-sx6xk Жыл бұрын
No they’re right. Gen alpha was born with a smartphone in hand. Gen z didn’t get them till high school.
@sevensongs Жыл бұрын
@@CaptainHarlock-sx6xk I agree for half of Gen-Z, but not the other half. Gen Zers were born as late as 2012 (some people put it even later!), and that tail end group had "smartphone in hand" as you say. Even those born before the iphone had access extremely early - if they were born in 2002, they had likely played on a smartphone by age 5! And actually, I think there is a dividing line in Gen Z created by that and also Covid. Kids graduating this year are Gen Z, but so are those who graduated a decade ago, and they are VERY different in their approach to tech! (My oldest fits in the latter category.) There is a big division for the students who graduate high school before Covid, and those who had their middle and high school interrupted by Covid and had their entire social lives relegated to online-only.

Overall, just don’t stereotype Alpha in general. Funny how people think gen alpha will miss out on before social media thing and play outside. Trust me gen alpha will be more social most of gen z was born without social media and grew into it that means that it affected them greatly because we still had millennial and boomer ways of thinking raise gen z. Now that an even more open minded generation will raise the new one alpha. I expect certain stigmas and discrimination to disappear. +video game where both considered things only loosers without life did. Now it accepted as a way of making money for some +things like racism will slowly fade out of humanity as the racism in boomers no longer affecting gen alpha and one skin color will be born +governments will lose power the internet will become like a hive mind for humanity one thought controlling nations alone Gen alpha will be the beginning of an entire new chapter for humanity gen z will be the last connection to the past of humanity's disruption Whatever gen alpha becomes will destroy the world or save it Will they let the human endeavor to consume, destroy and corrupt the internet Or will they adapt and use the internet to save the world we live on

@superchris_yt88762 жыл бұрын
Somewhere between 2010-2012. There really isn't a specific year for when it starts since everybody has different opinions. 2009 is still considered gen z, 2009 is late gen z. Some say it starts in 2010, others say 2012 and some even say 2013. However it also depends on how and where you grow up. Lets just say you were born in 2010 for example and you have older siblings born from 1995-2000. They will probably pass on some of there own generational influence on to you, for example old shows, fashion, old tech and just life style in general. If you don't have older siblings or old school parents then it's more likely you'll grow up more modernized. It also depends on where you live.

Most of the Alpha gen parents are millenials so I think when its time for Gen Z to be parents we wont allow our kids to be on phones all the time like millenials did. I think the generation after the alphas (maybe generation beta) will be a lot less tech savvy than the alphas. It's also very popular among gen z the "gentle parenting" so I believe we gen z's will do a better job at raising children than the millenials. (I am a gen z raised by gen x parents btw, x is the one before millenials)
@9sxxa2 жыл бұрын
@@laurag8126 I agree with gentle parenting, not the "do wtv u want without consequences" kind, look up Authoritative Style Parenting, it pretty much is very popular among my generation (gen z) and everytime we talk about our future and raising kids we refer to this type of parenting for example: kid paints the walls of his room with markers instead of giving an unrelated punishment for example "no mote TV for you" we sit down, talk about why what they did was wrong and give a related consequence "now you are going to help clean the wall" etc. This is gentle parenting instead of screaming (reacting) and threatening to remove things that have nothing to do with what happened. Another good thing about gentle parenting is respecting the kids wishes, if they dont wanna be touched of kissed we shouldnt force them like "go kiss grandma" if the kid says no, we respect them. To me this parenting is a lot better than the disciplinarian parenting style, the permissive parenting style (which is often confused with gentle parenting) and the neglectful parenting style. People hear "gentle parenting" and think of the permissive which would be like: kid paints all the walls and the parent doesnt give consequences, the parent just sits there like "oh no....." and does nothing and the parent is the one that cleans while the kid has no consequence at all, that is not gentle parenting, thats not parenting at all....
@9sxxa2 жыл бұрын
@@laurag8126 You just described the parenting style I agree with tho... I said gentle parenting and ur thinking of PERMISSIVE parenting. Gentle parenting isnt that. I have seen some of these alpha kid's behaviours too and theyre so entitled and disrespectful and I believe that comes from a lack of good parenting on the millenial's behalf. Specially because most younger millenial parents are super permissive just like you mentioned a mum letting her child walk all over her while shes "asking nicely to stop" thats so unnacceptable, I was not refering to the permissive parenting style. Also parents these days just hand theid kids and iPad and done, the kid stays on that ipad for the whole day. This is why I was saying that I think the beta generation will be better raised. Cuz gen z people are seeing these alphas and how tech dependant and disrespectful they are that when we are parents we wont raise the generation beta the same way as millenials raised gen alpha. The parenting style I like the most is the Authoritative (not authoritorian although the names are similar), this parenting style is pretty much the middle term, pretty much what u described (not yelling, firmly talking to the child about what they did and why it was wrong, giving sensable consequences for the bad behaviour) that is authoritative parenting and the style I was defenting gen z likes the most (you are gen z too so am I and we like the same pareting style so there u go ahaha) I dont have kids either, but from reading about parenting styles thats the one I like the best. Gen z's usually like that one the best while boomers might go for the authoritarian (spanking, yelling, screaming), the millenials usually go for the permissive (not doing nothing when the kid misbehaves, asking nicely while kid walks all over them, never speaking firmly) and sometimes combine it with the neglectful style (handing them an iPad and barely engaging with their own child for example). Us Gen z's usually dont really agree with any of those styles
