I found it funny that he really only edits one picture a month and spends more time taking pictures and less time editing. I really like that. His sense of perception of the environment is really incredible, you can tell he's spent a lot of time on the streets.

who was born with digital cameras have tendency of taking more shots so that "at least one is good" or editable. as other comments said, if you were born with film, you gained much more experience on taking e picture right at first attempt. it a slower kind of street photography. great thing

When the camera shot only one picture, it was almost good, when they invented roll film with 12 pictures, only 3 good shots, them 36 only 6 good, now with digital, 1 good in each 100 shots.😂

Man - this was one of the best interviews I have ever seen. As photographers we are artists and we all know artists have shallow self-esteems, get easily discouraged, often vacillate and many don't even have a good sense of direction. This guy was the opposite of all of this. He does not need anybody to prop him up or encourage him, he is very focused has his routine dialled in and does not get distracted. He also has a long-term goal and knows where he is heading. Also, he is one of the very few contemporaries who has the right take on film. Oh my goodness, I see so many photographers now who think they need to go waste their valuable time and money and dirge back and dabble in film because they are missing out on something. I'm like this guy and Steve McCurry - I was pleased to see the end of film and I never want to go back. As Siegfried says - he does not need film to slow him down or hinder him. I can't wait for the second part of this interview. Very well done Samuel

I think he said he has no long-term goal (except making photographs) and doesn't know where he's going. He's an artist, not a careerist.

A slight correction to your conclusion that "as photographers, we are artists". Photography is what you make out of it. Like with guns - it is not the camera that makes art - but the brain of the person who handles the camera. Spending $ thousands for equipment or wearing a "Press" badge is not what creates "visual arts" but the talent of somebody who is able to see the light, and able to capture in a fraction of a second the moment when light highlights lines, shapes, and forms of an object in a way that it amplifies their beauty - and by doing so creates a memory in a person life - that is visual art.
@chriscard6544 Жыл бұрын
@@BernhardSchwarz-xs8kp I used to work as a photographer, I never felt myself as an artist even though people around told me it was art. Rare photographers are artists, they built something that is new. To me it doesnt matter if it is art or just photographs. It's a language with light and dark

More fascinating, if you do the same shot no one cares or said it a good picture. Anybody can do it, but he has a name we not. Think about Karl Lagerfelds photigraphy nothing special butyes but: he was Lagerfeld. I see tons of these photos in my university in photo department or the master degrees otoject. I ask myself, damn and with that hey get the degree?

As an amateur photograph, who has been doing this for almost 10 months, I have learned a huge amount just by listening to this interview, let alone the inspirational talk. Great interview and insight into the mind of an exceptional photographer. The dedication he puts in is what we all learn about, but he personifies so much when he says things like 'after 20 years, I never doubt I'll get a bad photo as that is what the training has been all about'. Super insight. Thank you. I've gotten way too distracted with videos from 'gear boys' these days and need to come back to the art of the craft.
